Veteran Firepower Ready to Lead Marauders at NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Bismarck, ND – The University of Mary men's and women's indoor track and field teams are set to compete at the Northern Sun indoor track and field championships this weekend. The U-Mary women look to defend their 2011 championship while the men are looking to take another jump forward. The conference championship is February 24-25 in Mankato, MN.
 
The defending NSIC  women's indoor track and field champions, the Marauders return nine all-conference performers from a year ago: Melissa Agnew (Mile, 1000 meter run), Janet Johnson (60 meter hurdles), Kristyn Nelson (60 meter hurdles), Emilee Morehouse (1000 meter run, Distance Medley Relay), Brittany Beehler (high jump), Kayla Montgomery (4x400 meter relay, DMR), Megan Jenkins (4x400 meter relay), Kayla Carlson (DMR) and Dakota Wolf (DMR).
 
Agnew is the returning champion in the mile and Johnson captured the 60 meter hurdles crown. They are two of nine returning champions from around the conference looking to retain their individual titles.
 
The Marauders enter the weekend with some of the best performances in the conference. Kathryn Stewart owns the best time this season in the 200 meter dash. Rikki Schmidt is second in the 400 meter dash. Wolf and Agnew are 1-2 in the mile with Nocona Frame sixth.  Agnew and Wolf are 2-3 in the 800. Jennifer Agnew has the second best time in the 5000. Johnson and Nelson are 1-3 in the 60 meter hurdles.
 
U-Mary owns the top time in the DMR and the second best clocking in the 4x400.
 
Tess Johnson already placed second in the NSIC multi championships.  
 
On the men's side, Tracy Lide is the lone returning All-Conference performer for the Marauders. Lide earned the NSIC recognition in the 200 meter dash.
 
Lide currently has the ninth best time among NSIC performers in the 60 and is tenth in the 200.
 
Jesse Bennett ranks third in the mile run and fourth in the 800. Thomas Hartwell is also ranked in two events, fifth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump while Tad Harman is sixth in the shot put and seventh in the weight throw.
 
Thomas Kjerengtroen posted the fourth best mark this season in the mile run and Chase Dixon is fourth in the 60 meter hurdles. 
 
Three Marauders are in the top six in the pole vault: Marshall Fryberger (3rd), Kohl Koppinger (4th) and Tim Simonich (6th).
 
Several other Marauders also rank in the top nine of their events: Taylor Thompson (8th in the 5,000), Dustyn Reub (8th in the high jump), Jordan Washington (10th in the 400), Deland Weyrauch (9th in the 600) and Aaron Tiegen (9th in triple jump).
 
The U-Mary men placed sixth at the conference indoor championships in 2011.
