Bismarck, ND – Outstanding performances throughout the University of Mary women's tennis lineup helped the Marauders pick up their first win of the season and snap an expended losing streak. U-Mary rolled past Southwest Minnesota State University 6-3 in the Marauders first match of the day before suffering a 9-0 loss to Augustana, the top-ranked team in the region.
 
The Marauders started the day strong against the Mustangs, picking up wins in two of the three doubles matches before claiming four of the six singles events.
 
Megan Bosch and Rachel Phelps combined to capture U-Mary's first win of the day, an 8-4 decision in #2 doubles. The #3 doubles team of Rachel Brown and Amanda Hennessy then came through with an 8-2 win in #3 doubles.
 
The Marauders would suffer tough losses in #1 and #2 singles but would sweep the other four matches. Julia Amundson claimed a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Allison Niedert in the #3 match. Ashley Tuschling outlasted Ashey Plucker of the Mustangs in one of the two longest matches of the day, 6-4, 6-7 (3-0), 1-0 (10-6).  
 
Fresh off wins in doubles, Phelps and Brown would roll to wins in the #5 and #6 singles matches. Phelps won 12 of 15 games in the two sets and Brown took 12 of 13 for the easy win.
 
For the Marauders, the win over the Mustangs snaps what was at least a 16 match losing streak. U-Mary had last won a match in 2009 after dropping all 12 competitions in 2011. (NOTE: U-Mary did not compete in 2010).
 
Facing Augustana, the region's top-ranked squad, in the second match of the day was a tall task and the Vikings proved too much for the Marauders to handle in a U-Mary 9-0 loss.
 
The closest game for the Marauders came in #3 doubles where Brown and Tuschling lost 8-4.
 
The Marauders improved to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the Northern Sun. U-Mary returns to the court February 25 when the Marauders host the University of Sioux Falls.
