Women Look for First Conference Win

Last week the Marauders hosted their first conference game of the season at the Bismarck Civic Center. Renewing their conference rivalry with Minot State, U-Mary fell 74-73 on a last minute shot. Ali Collins, Kaitlynn Haag, McKenzie Foster, and Britney Dietz were all in double-figures for the Marauders. Poor second half shooting doomed U-Mary, however, as they gave up an 11 point second half lead while shoot one of eleven from beyond the arc.

This weekend U-Mary will look to win their first conference game of the season, and first under head coach Rick Neumann as they host Northern State and MSU-Moorhead.

GARBAGE DUTY: The Marauders have controlled the boards this season 277-207. With a plus 11.6 rebound margin, U-Mary is 15th best in the Division II. Last season the Marauders only held a plus 4.6 rebounding margin.

DOUBLE-DIPPING: After finishing last season with just one double-double, Shaunna Knife has already surpassed that mark by recording a double-double in four of the Marauders first six games. Knife's four double doubles now brings her career total to ten. Knife's four double-doubles is good for 8th in the NCAA. Since joining the NCAA, Anna Skala holds the U-Mary single-season mark with 10 double doubles in the 2008-09 season.

LOCAL TALENT: Six of U-Mary's 12 players this season hail from North Dakota. Those six players includes the Marauders top two scorers in Shaunna Knife (Bottineau) and Ali Collins (Mandan). Also among those six are U-Mary's top three reserve players in Britney Dietz (Beach) Kelsey Peltier (Bottineau) and Lindsay Sand (Steele). Redshirt freshman Nicole Carew (Fargo) rounds out the group.

BOMBS AWAY: With 7.7 three-point field goals per game the Marauders average the 26th most in the country. U--Mary averages 24 attempts per game up form 20 per game last season.

HISTORY BOOKS: With 777 career points Shaunna Knife's strong start she has moved her into sole possession of 25th all-time scoring Marauders history. Next up for Knife is Roberta Fred at 807. Knife has also moved her way up the rebounding list and sits at 17th with 453 career rebounds. If she continues her average this weekend she can take Karen Schashian's place at 13th all-time. In her third and final year with U-Mary Ali Collins ranks 15th all-time on the assist list with 208. With a solid weekend Collins has a chance to move up to 13th ahead of Sarah Leer's 216.

Next week U-Mary will head to Minnesota as they take on Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Last season the Marauders defeated the Beavers both times they met and currently has a four game winning streak in the series. U-Mary also defeated Crookston both times they faced each other last season.
