Crookston, Minn. – The University of Mary extends their winning streak to five against Minnesota Crookston. U-Mary has now won 12 of their 13 meetings with UMC since they joined the Northern Sun in 2006-07. Leading nearly the entire game, the Marauders cruised to an 88-66 victory.
With five players in double figures,
Ali Collins led the way for the Marauders with 23 points, six rebounds, five assists and six steals.
McKenzie Foster and
Laura Petersen each scored 15 points for U-Mary.
Shanara Clark scored a career-high 12 and
Brittney Dietz added 11.
Brittani Wiese's 20 points paced the Golden Eagles (4-5, 1-4 NSIC). Wiese connected on 10 of her 11 attempts from the charity stripe.
Just two minutes and 13 seconds into the first half the Marauders took the lead for good. U-Mary built their lead to as many as 14 in the first half, but UMC was able to close the gap to 42-37 going into the break.
In the second half the Golden Eagles made it a one-possession game, but the Marauders answered with an 18-2 run to extend their lead to 65-47 with 10:01 to go in the game. Fourteen of U-Mary's points on the run came off of lay-ups and two more came from free-throws. Just two of the points came off of a jump shot. Extending their lead to as many as 25, the Marauders coasted to an 88-66 win.
U-Mary knocked down double-digits three-point shots for the second consecutive night and fifth time this season. The Marauders are now 5-0 when knocking down ten or more shots from deep.
For the game U-Mary out shot UMC 50 to 39 percent and 44 to 21 from beyond the arc. Led by career-high nine rebounds from Foster's, the Marauders held a 40-36 edge on the boards. Led by Collins' six steals, U-Mary forced 23 Crookston turnovers.
With the win the Marauders improve to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in the Northern Sun. U-Mary will take a break next week and will be back in action on December 30, as they host Dakota State in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
