Box Score Pittsburg, Kan. – Coming off of a season opening win over Missouri Southern, U-Mary took on Pittsburg State (2-0, 0-0 MIAA). Turnovers doomed the Marauder's, however, as they fell 80-60.
U-Mary finished the game with 25 turnovers, while forcing only nine.
Britney Dietz had a solid all-around performance finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds, all of them offensive.
Unable to match the start they had against Missouri Southern, U-Mary got down early and had to play catch-up the entire game. The Marauders slow offensive start left them down 16-6 midway through the first period. PSU capitalized on U-Mary's 16 first half turnovers by extending their lead to as much as 20.
Dietz took things into her own hands as she went on a 5-0 run to bring the score to 29-14. This sparked the Marauders, as they were able to close the gap to 35-27 by halftime.
Four turnovers and eight missed shot attempts to start the second half allowed the Gorillas to go on a nine point run to extend their lead to 44-27. The lead proved to be too much for the Marauders as they were never able to cut it below 13 before eventually falling 80-60.
The second half saw the Marauders shoot just 25 percent from the field and 18 from beyond the arc.
Shaunna Knife recorded her eighth career double-double, and second in as many nights, as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Struggling from the field,
Ali Collins was able to finish with 16 points on 9 of 11 shooting from the stripe.
For Pitt State Lizzy Jeronimus scored a game-high 23 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
PSU took advantage of U-Mary's mistakes all night by scoring 39 of their 80 points off of Marauder turnovers. The Gorillas also held a distinct advantage in the paint outscoring the Marauders 42-18.
U-Mary (1-1, 0-0 NSIC) will be back in action as they head to California to take on Sonoma State University on November 17.
