UPS AND DOWNS: Playing in their first ever season as a member of an athletic conference, U-Mary will wrap-up its inaugural season as a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. This season has been full of ups and downs for the Marauders. U-Mary has taken its bumps, but has made some program history in the meantime.
The Marauders played in, and won 2-0, their first ever GNAC game against Saint Martin's University (9/13). U-Mary hosted, and won 2-1, their first ever conference home game against Western Washington University (9/20). With three goals and one assists,
Rory Pratt was named offensive player of the week (10/22), this was the first ever GNAC award for the Marauders. Just one day later
Kyle Roesler,
Ryan Buchholz and
Jake Meyer were the first U-Mary athletes to be named to the GNAC All-Academic Team. Roesler also was awarded the individual title with a league high 3.98 grade point average.
University of Sioux Falls, also new to the GNAC, has struggled in their inaugural season (1-8, 1-5 GNAC). On the season the Cougars have been out scored by a 41-12 margin. With just nine goals in conference play, Sioux Falls is the lowest scoring team in the league. Carrying the majority of the offensive load for the Cougars is senior F Brice Holiday. Hampered by injuries last year Holiday was named GPAC All-Conference honorable mention in his first two years for Sioux Falls. The senior forward is now showing the GNAC his talent as he has scored six of the teams twelve goals and assisted on two more. Sioux Falls' GK Kyle Simons has been kept busy all year. The junior GK has stopped the ninth most shots in the NCAA with 95. In 2011 the Cougars beat the Marauders 5-3 in Bismarck. The GNAC newcomers played to a 1-1 tie earlier in the season.
