SATURDAY: The University of Mary embarks on a two-game road trip to wrap up the 2012 season. The first destination is eastern Minnesota to face the nationally ranked Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, November 3. Kickoff from James S. Malosky Stadium is 1 PM.
THE RECORDS: U-Mary is 4-5 overall and in the Northern Sun and 1-4 in the North Division... 9th ranked Minnesota Duluth is 8-1 overall and in the NSIC and at 4-1 is tied for the lead in the NSIC North.
LAST GAME: The Marauders lost its final home game of the season 65-17 to Northern State University... The Bulldogs earned a 38-14 road win at the University of Minnesota Crookston.
LAST YEAR: U-Mary finished 5-6 overall, 4-6 in the NSIC and 3-3 in the NSIC North… UMD finished 11-3 overall, 8-2 in the NSIC and 5-1 in the NSIC North. The Bulldogs won the NSIC title and advanced to the NCAA tournament semifinals.
HEAD COACHES: U-Mary's all-time winningest head coach, Myron Schulz owns a record of 97-53 in his 14th season at the helm of the Marauders. Synonymous with Marauders football, Schulz has been a member of U-Mary's coaching staff in 22 of the program's 25 seasons. He has directed the squad to six national tournament appearances and four conference titles. His teams owned a streak of nine straight winning seasons and the Marauders are 73-35 in conference games. Since starting the transition to the NCAA in 2005, U-Mary is 42-41. The Marauders are 28-30 in Northern Sun contests... University of Minnesota Duluth head coach Bob Nielsen, also is the Bulldogs athletic director, owns two NCAA II national championships, five NSIC titles (including the last four in a row), three perfect 11-0 regular seasons, five NCAA II playoff appearances, a 98-25 record and a .797 overall winning percentage in ten seasons as head coach. Nielsen first served as the UMD head coach from 1999-2003, stepped away as athletic director and assumed both roles in 2008.

THE MARAUDERS-BULLDOGS SERIES HISTORY: In a series that began in 2006, the Bulldogs have won all five meetings. The first meeting was Sept. 9, 2006 and ended with a 42-14 UMD win. The Marauders had more 1st downs (20-18), more total yards (375-372) and more passing yards (314 to 246). UMD led 14-0 at intermission and built a 21-0 lead before U-Mary got on the board... In 2008, Minnesota Duluth claimed a 44-7 win at home, scoring 21 points in the opening quarter. RB Isaac Odim scored three TDs and DJ Winfield caught ten balls for 172 yards and a score.
Jamal Lomax scored the lone U-Mary touchdown and ran for 63 yards... In 2009, UMD rolled to a 35-7 win as Odim ran for four touchdowns and 187 yards on 14 carries. Overall UMD ran for 259 yards but passed for just 64 yards as Chase Vogler was only 5-of-12 for 53 yards. The Marauders managed 249 yards, led by Lomax with 109 yards rushing on 29 carries... In the 2010 meeting in Duluth, MN, #2 UMD played without All-American Isaac Odim but still rolled to a 49-0 win over the Marauders. The Bulldogs scored on their first three possessions of the game and rolled up 531 yards of offense, including 327 on the ground. The Marauders were limited to 235 yards offensively, including 83 on the ground.
Jamal Lomax ran for 65 yards to pace the Marauders.
Craig Bagnell completed 18-of-27 passes for 152 yards and
Bryan Sandy caught six balls for 47 yards. Marcus Parence led the defense with eight tackles. For UMD, Brad Foss ran for 121 yards and three touchdowns... 2011:
Tyler Steffan caught a school-record four touchdown passes and
Josh Edwards threw for 318 yards but the Marauders couldn't keep pace with the ground attack of #9 UMD in a 41-28. UMD ran for 410 of its 485 yards of offense, including a 75 yard touchdown run by Austin Sikorski on the second play of the game. He finished the day with 185 yards and three scores on 19 carries. The Marauders would match the Sikorski score on their first offensive play when Edwards hit Steffan on a 64-yard touchdown pass just 1:07 into the game. UMD then score the next 27 points. Edwards was 28-of-40 passes for 318 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.

QUICK LOOK AT #9 MINNESOTA DULUTH: One of the nation's top programs with national championships in 2008 and 2010, the Bulldogs have won 38 consecutive Northern Sun home games. UMD also owns four straight NSIC titles but is currently tied for second, one game behind Minnesota State with only two weeks left in the regular season. Currently UMD is ranked seventh in the NCAA Super Region II rankings. SR QB Chase Vogler is 44-5 as a starter since moving into the lineup in his freshman season. One of the most efficient quarterbacks in the nation, Vogler completes 63.2 per cent of his passes for 1,783 yards, 16 TDs and just six interceptions. He also has ran for 440 yards and nine touchdowns. Behind All-American guard Garth Heikkinen, the Bulldogs own the top run attack in the NSIC averaging 243 yards/game. UMD also leads in scoring (44.6 points/game). Aaron Sikorski paces the team with 570 rushing yards and nine TDs. Defensively UMD is second in points allowed (19.9/game). Fossam Foncham leads UMD with 6.5 tackles for loss and three fumbles recovered. Colby Ring paced the squad in tackles (59).
LAST WEEK: A game that looked like it could be a rout early indeed became one, just not the way the home crowd expected. U-Mary jumped out to a 14-3 lead but Northern State University responded by scoring 55 straight points as the Wolves defeated the Marauders 65-17. This was the most points allowed by U-Mary in school history, eclipsing the 55 points St. Cloud State scored earlier this season... In the final U-Mary home game of the season the Marauders struck on their second drive of the game when
Craig Bagnell connected with
Elby Pope on a 71 yard touchdown pass. Two drives later following a Wolves field goal, Bagnell connected with
Tyler Steffan on a four yard scoring pass to bump the Marauders lead to 14-3 at 5:12 of the opening quarter... The rest of the day belonged to the Wolves. Jared Jacobson connected on scoring strikes of 17 and 66 yards with Chris Morton to take a 17-14 lead early in the second quarter. Just 16 seconds after taking the lead, Chris Tuch returned an interception 18 yards for another Wolves touchdown. By intermission Northern State led 37-14... Pope led the Marauders efforts with seven catches for 109 yards and a score. The Marauders sophomore also returned six kicks for 134 yards, including a long of 38 yards. Bagnell passed for 201 yards and two scores. Defensively
Mikey Ingemansen had two sacks and Nick Giannosa had two tackles for loss for U-Mary in their final home games... Jacobson threw for 422 yards and three scores. Morton caught six passes for 148 yards and three scores.
Marauders Football to Close Season at Alerus Center: The final 2012 regular season football game for the University of Mary will be played at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, ND. Originally scheduled for Crookston, MN, on November 10, the University of Minnesota, Crookton shifted the game indoors. The Alerus Center, home of the University of North Dakota football team, seats 12,283 people and features an AstroTurf Magic Carpet playing surface. Tickets will be $12 for adults, $8 for students (ages 13-18), $6 for children (6-12) and seniors (62 and over). Doors will open an hour ahead of game time. Tickets can be purchased through the Alerus Center and Ticketmaster. Tailgating for UMC and U-Mary fans will be allowed outside the gate two in the south parking lot. The main entrance for the game will be gate one.
BAGNELL'S BACK! After missing three straight games due to injury suffered in the Winona State game, JR QB
Craig Bagnell returned to the lineup against MSU Moorhead and directed the Marauders to a 23-7 win. Bagnell was 15-of-26 for 189 yards, a touchdown and just one interception. In his 2nd start he threw two TD passes against Northern State.
STEPPING FORWARD: In his first year in a starting role, SO WR
Elby Pope (Grand Forks, ND) is second in the NSIC in pass receptions with 57. He is third in the conference in receiving yards with 807. Including his punt and kick return yardage plus his rushing yardage (1,294), Pope is fifth in the NSIC in all purpose yardage, averaging 143.8 yards/game.

John Oyloe (Williston, ND) is having an incredibly productive season. He is second in the NSIC in sacks (9.5), fifth in tackles for loss (13.5) and is tied for the lead in tackles by defensive linemen (65).
BEHIND THE LINE: SO LB
Troy Guptill is 7th in the NSIC in tackles for loss with 11.5, including five sacks. This is the 1st season Guptill has seen significant snaps.
MIKEY ON THE SPOT: SR LB
Mikey Ingemansen is second in the NSIC in fumbles recovered with three and is fourth in forced fumbles (2). A big play performer, Ingemansen is 4th in the NSIC in sacks with 6.0. He also has nine tackles for loss and has forced two fumbles.
AIR IT OUT: The Marauders passing attack is third in the NSIC and 27th in the NCAA with an average of 279.6 yards per game. U-Mary quarterbacks have thrown 22 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in nine games.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS: The Marauders passing game is an all-inclusive attack. Seven different players have 14 or more catches. Eight have caught a pass for 25 or more yards. Seven also have caught scoring passes and five have three or more touchdown receptions.

Scott Maldonado has made a major impact on the Marauders defense, hitting double digit stops in three of nine games. The NSIC defensive player of the week after his first game at U-Mary, Maldonado is 9th in the conference and leads the Marauders in tackles with 76 (34 solo). Maldonado has two tackles for loss, a sack, an interception, recovered a fumble and has broken up six passes. On special teams he has blocked a field goal and a punt, which was returned for a touchdown
STEFFAN CLIMBS THE CHARTS: All-American WR
Tyler Steffan is climbing up the career record charts for the Marauders. After setting a single-season touchdown reception record last season after pulling in 17 scoring strike, Steffan is now second all-time at U-Mary in touchdown receptions (28), third in receptions (155), third in receiving yardage (2,408) and fifth in career touchdowns (28).

Tyler Ryan, opponents have returned just 10 punts in 49 kicks and the Marauders are third in net punting at 36.4 yards/kick. 19 times he has pinned opponents inside the 20 and only two punts have resulted in touchbacks. The 19 kicks inside the 20 leads the NSIC. Additionally, 24 of Ryan's 44 kickoffs have resulted in touchbacks and he is averaging 63.5 yards per kickoff (note: the distance to the end zone is 65 yards).
25: Marauders football is in its 25th season. The first varsity season for U-Mary was played in 1988 and the team went 2-7. In its first 24 seasons, the Marauders have a combined record of 161-89-1, posted 16 winning seasons, advanced to national playoffs 10 times and claimed six conference titles.
