Last week the Marauders had a successful weekend recording four points in conference play. First up U-Mary squared off with #9 Seattle Pacific. With winds howling, the first goal of the game was not scored until
Rory Pratt found the back of the net in the 60th minute. A converted penalty kick by SPU tied the game with three minutes to go. With no team able to score, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The Saint Martin's game proved to be a physical one. With 33 fouls and eight yellowcards in the game, the Marauders were able to come home with a 3-1 victory.
Joe Wood scored a goal and added an assist in the win. GK
Michael Frenzel finished the weekend with 17 saves and an .895 save percentage.
Pratt Honored:
Rory Pratt had a hand in all four of the Marauders' goals this weekend. For his performance Pratt was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week. On Thursday against #9 Seattle Pacific, Pratt scored the lone goal in a 1-1 tie. On Saturday Pratt recorded his first assist of the season to put U-Mary up 1-0 against Saint Martin's. In the second half Pratt scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute. To add some insurance, Pratt also scored in the 83rd minute to clinch a 3-1 victory of Saint Martin's. Pratt finished the weekend with seven points.
Student-Athletes:
Jake Meyer,
Ryan Buchholz and
Kyle Roesler were named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Soccer Academic All-Conference Team. Meyer carries a 3.37 grade point average and is pursuing a degree in Physical Education. Buchholz, a Bismarck native, is pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts and Science. With a 3.96 grade point average, the junior has the second highest average among the 39 athletes. Roesler is pursuing a degree in business. Roesler, with a 3.98 GPA, has the highest average in the conference.
This week the Marauders will make their final road-trip of the season. First up will be a rematch with 4th place Montana State-Billings. Last time these two teams met the Marauders fell 2-1 in overtime. Rounding out the weekend will be a rematch with second place Northwest Nazarene. The first time they played U-Mary lost 2-1 in overtime.
Time Change: The Marauders game against Montana State-Billings has been changed to 3 PM CST.
Montana State (8-4-2, 5-4-2 GNAC) has outscored opponents 22-15 this year. The Yellow Jackets have not lost in their past four games. Last weekend MSUB tied #3 Simon Fraser and defeated South Dakota School of Mines. Thomas Chameraud has led MSUB offensively with four goals and seven assists, both team highs. The senior forward was named All-GNAC in 2011. Goalkeeper Eoin Hurley has paced the defensive efforts with four shutouts on the year. Since entering the NCAA in 2006 the Marauders are 0-12 against the Yellowjackets.
Northwest Nazarene (7-4-4, 6-2-3 GNAC) has outscored opponents 20-16 on the season. Nazarene suffered two of their three conference losses this past weekend. The Crusaders dropped to #3 Simon Fraser and unranked Western Washington. Nazarene is led by senior captain Stephen Marshall who was named All-GNAC the past two years. Marshall has helped lead the defense to seven shutouts. Goalkeeper Alfredo Ontiveros has also had a hand in those shutouts. Ontiveros is second with five GNAC shutouts including two against Seattle Pacific and one against Simon Fraser.
Next week the Marauders will host their final home game of the season. Fellow GNAC newcomer, Sioux Falls will travel to town for a GNAC rematch (11/4). The two teams played to a 1-1 tie earlier in the season.
