Bismarck, ND – One of the nation's top touchdown makers has earned another post-season honor. University of Mary wide receiver Tyler Steffan today was named to the 2011 D2Football.com All-America honorable mention team.
Steffan, who led NCAA Division II with 17 touchdown receptions, previously was named to the AFCA All-America team, the Daktronics All-Region first team, and the Northern Sun North Division All-Conference first team after a stellar 2011 season.
The junior from Dickinson, ND, caught 54 passes for 914 yards and 17 touchdowns and averaged 16.9 yards per reception. He led the NSIC in touchdowns and finished 15th in the nation with an average of 9.27 points per game. Steffan was second in the conference in receptions and receiving yards and finished 35th in receiving yards per game and 75th in receptions per game in NCAA Division II.
Steffan established a single season school record for touchdown receptions in 2011. He set a new U-Mary single game record for touchdown receptions when he twice caught four scoring passes in one game. At the same time he also tied the single game school record for touchdowns.
For his career, Steffan is tied for second in career receiving touchdowns at U-Mary with 23. His 23 total touchdowns is seventh in school history. With 114 catches and 1,850 receiving yards in three seasons, Steffan is tied for sixth in career receptions and fifth in career receiving yardage.
The D2Football.com All-America Team was selected by the web site's staff with input from coaches and sports information directors from around the country. D2Football.com has named an All-America Team since its inception in 2000.
