Box Score Bismarck, ND - The University of Mary and Minot State University hadn't played one another for five years, and the Marauders hadn't lost to the Beavers since 2002, winning the last ten meetings between the two schools. Frigid shooting by U-Mary and clutch second half play by MSU allowed the Beavers to break their losing streak and defeat the Marauders 76-65. It was the season opener for U-Mary.
The Marauders (0-1 overall) shot 32.1 per cent for the night while the Beavers (2-1) clicked along at 50 per cent. U-Mary made just 18-of-56 shots, including a 2-of-15 effort on three pointers in the second half.
U-Mary built an early 9-2 lead to open the night but Minot State would go on a 12-0 run to take the lead and would enter intermission leading 31-29.
A jumper by Lindsey Sand would give the Marauders a 38-37 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the game, but it was the late U-Mary advantage of the night. The Beavers ran off 16 of the next 19 points to take control of the game. Twice U-Mary would close to within six but each time Minot State would extend its advantage to double digits.
Ali Collins paced the Marauders with 16 points, four assists and five steals. Shanna Knife had a double double, scoring 13 and grabbing 10 rebounds. Linda Murray had eight points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Morgan Klose came off the bench to lead the Beavers with 19 points. Christina Boag had 13 points, Lauren Safranski scored 12 and Carly Boag chipped in 11.
The win was the first by the Beavers over the Marauders since January 4, 2002. It was the first win for MSU at the McDowell Activity Center since January 5, 2001.
The two teams will face each other in Minot, ND, on November 23.
The Marauders return to the court at Johnson and Wales in Florida on November 18.
