2017-2018
At the first meet of the year Murphy won the 50 freestyle and finished 2
nd in the 200 freestyle & 200 backstroke against Northern State. Next up was a dual meet against Minnesota Moorhead where Murphy finished 3
rd in both the 200 freestyle & 200 backstroke. Against Sioux Falls Kate had 4
th place finishes in the 200 & 500 freestyles. Competing in a dual meet against Augustana, Murphy had 3
rd place finishes in the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke, & 50 freestyle. Against Northern State, Murphy finished 2
nd in the 200 freestyle & 3
rd in the 100 backstroke. Against Concordia College Murphy won both the 1000 freestyle & 100 backstroke. At the Dragon/Cobber Invite, Murphy had finishes of 7
th in the 500 freestyle, 5
th in the 200 freestyle, 9
th in the 1650 freestyle, & 3
rd in the 200 backstroke. Next up was the Dragon Invite where Murphy finished 8
th in the 200 backstroke, 7
th in the 200 freestyle, 4
th in the 1000 freestyle, 7
th in the 500 freestyle, & 10
th in the 100 freestyle helping the Marauders to a 2
nd place team finish. At the 2018 NSIC Championship, scoring team points for the Marauders Murphy placed 14
th in the 1,000 yard freestyle. The Marauders finished the day with a school record in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Mary Williamson, Kate Murphy, Andrea Smith and Boese placed ninth overall in a time of 7:58.77. The Marauders had three swimmers place in the 1,650 yard freestyle in 12
th with a clocking of 18:13.49 was Kate Murphy. UMary showed its depth in the 200 yard backstroke as Murphy claimed 12
th in a time of 2:11.08. Kate had a great second season with the Marauders and she helped the team in backstroke and freestyle events.

Kate Murphy posted a time of 2:10.70, a top nine mark in the Northern Sun this season. In the closest race of the night, the native of Jefferson City, MT, was just .04 seconds behind the winning time of Northern State's Edda Skoric. Murphy was also second overall in the 200 yard freestyle with a clocking of 2:00.97. In addition to her winning the 200 IM. COBBER INVITE Murphy won the 1650 yard freestyle in the opening individual event of the day, posting a time of 18:44.67 to win. Her time is currently the 6

Elizabeth Moriarty and Murphy collectively were clocked at 4:07.97 in the 400 yard medley relay, eclipsing the Marauders previous best time by 8.45 seconds. On day two, the Marauders opened with a new team mark in the 200 yard medley relay as Boese, Mokhtary, Moriarty and Murphy finished the event in 1:53.45 to eclipse the previous best mark by less than a second. After setting a new team record of 1:57.33 in the 200 yard freestyle, Murphy placed 13
thoverall in the event, swimming a time of 1:58.84 in the finals. On the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Nelson, Moriarty,Â
Sam Putti and Murphy dropped their best time to 1:43.17. Three Marauders qualified for the finals of the 200 yard backstroke. Murphy set a new school record with a time of 2:07.92 to finish 12
th overall. The Marauders closed out the meet on a high note, taking 11
th overall in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Moriarty, Murphy, Nelson and Boese swam a combined time of 3:39.96 to break the school record by over 10 seconds. DRAGON INVITE,
Kate Murphy also turned in a third place finish when she swam the 100 yard backstroke in 1:02.30 after recording a time of 1:01.78 in the preliminaries. She was fourth in the 200 yard backstroke, registering a time of 2:13.35. Additionally she had a fourth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle in 26.24, missing third place by just .04 seconds. Murphy's preliminary time of 26.07 seconds was even faster. A third place marking in the 800 yard freestyle was the best relay finish for Mary at the Dragon Invite. Putti, Murphy,Â

th place finish in the 200 yard medley relay as the quartet of Boese, Mokhtary, Moriarty and Murphy registered a time of 1:54.24. Mary closed out the weekend with a fourth place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay as Moriarty, Murphy, Putti and Boese teamed up for a clocking of 3:49.35. BISMARCK, ND – In the final home meet of the University of Mary swimming's inaugural season, a format changeup led to several outstanding performances for the Marauders.Â
Kate Murphy was fifth as Mary hosted Northern State University in a sprint pentathlon. NSIC-Two Marauders earned spots in the 200 yard freestyle finals.Â

Kate Murphy, who registered a career-best time of 18:29.37. For the second straight semester, Kate Murphy representing the Marauders earned the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team honors after posting a team grade point average of 3.50 during the 2017 spring semester. Kate contributed to the program in the freestyle events.

A team captain at Helena (Mont.) High School, Katherine "Kate" Murphy has earned four varsity letters in her high school career. The class valedictorian, a distinguished scholar, an academic all-state and National Honor Society member who dances ballet and competes in the Science Olympiad, Kate is the daughter of Victoria and James Murphy and will major in biology at the University of Mary.
