After opening the season with a neutral site game, the University of Mary football team hosts #3/#4 Minnesota State University in the Marauders home opener on Saturday, September 5. Also the Northern Sun opener for both teams, the Marauders WHITE OUT game with the Mavericks kicks off at 5:30 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.

UMary fans are encouraged to wear white in support of the Marauders, who will wear their white jerseys and pants in combination with their white helmets.
 
FAMILY WEEKEND
The Marauders home opener is also Family Weekend. UMary students arrive on campus on Saturday with classes starting Tuesday.

The Marauders are 1-0 overall this season after defeating Rocky Mountain College 23-10 … Minnesota State is 1-0 after defeating Colorado Mesa 38-14 in a week 0 road win.
 
MARAUDERS-MAVERICKS HISTORY LESSON

• This is the 9^th meeting between the Marauders and the Mavericks
• The Mavericks have captured all eight meetings (5-0 in Mankato, 3-0 in Bismarck)
• This is the first visit to Bismarck by Minnesota State since 2017 as the last three meetings have been played in Mankato
• The two teams first played in 2008
• The Mavericks have been nationally ranked in the last six meetings

LAST MEETING Down 14-7 at half after Carl Henry caught a scoring pass from Jordan Polo Solomon, the Marauders were unable to keep pace with the Mavericks in the second half of a 49-21 road loss in the 2024 season. Solomon threw for two TDs and 204 yards.  
 
MARAUDERS OPEN SEASON WITH 23-10 WIN OVER BATTLIN' BEARS
Playing a week 0 non-conference neutral site game in Glendive, MT, UMary downed Rocky Mountain College 23-10. Karsyn Jablonski opened and closed the scoring with a 20 yard TD reception in the first quarter and an 11 yard catch in the fourth quarter, both from Ryan Blair. Xavier Brackenridge also ran for a 1 yard touchdown and Jack Henniger booted a 33 yard field goal. The Marauders defense held the Battlin' Bears to 267 yards of offense as Travis Biery had two sacks and forced a fumble and Christopher Federico made 16 tackles (14 solo) and recovered a fumble. Blair completed 20-of-30 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. Carter Henke averaged 62.6 yards per punt on five attempts and downed balls at the 1, 2 and 3 yard lines.
 
SACK CITY
Led by Travis Biery with two sacks, the Marauders pulled down the Battlin' Bears quarterback five times behind the line of scrimmage. The six sacks was the second most by an NCAA D2 team in Week 0. Jett Solomon, Vegas George and Lane Bradley each had a sack and Sean Cotton and Christian Artega shared a sack.   
 
JETT-ING AROUND
Jett Solomon covered a lot of ground from his safety position on opening day. He had a sack, broke up two passes and made five tackles.
 
NCAA D2 RANKINGS

• Carter Henke is the nation's leader in punting with an average of 62.6 yards on five attempts
• Christopher Federico is #1 in solo tackles (14) and 3^rd in total tackles (16)

HENKE NAMED THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL NETWORK D-2 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Combining both explosive distance and deft touch in a dazzling season debut, University of Mary punter Carter Henke is The College Football Network D-2 Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Marauders 2026 Week 0 victory. Henke placed the Rocky Mountain College offense in a precarious position all game, downing three of his five punts inside the three yard line. He averaged 62.6 yards per punt and all five punts covered more than 50 yards (65, 68, 65, 63, 52). The Bismack, ND, native's first two punts of the day were downed at the Battlin' Bears 1 and 3 yard lines, respectively, forcing RMC to start its first two drives in the shadow of its own goal line. His last effort of the day was placed at the 2 yard line as the Marauders looked to preserve their lead in the 23-10 win. Henke ranks first in NCAA Division II in punting average.
 
BIERY NAMED NSIC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Creating chaos that led directly to two University of Mary touchdowns in a season-opening win, senior Travis Biery is the Northern Sun Football Defensive Player of the Week. The defensive lineman from Sauk Rapids, MN, had two sacks, forced a fumble and made six tackles in the Marauders 23-10 win over Rocky Mountain College.
 
Both of Biery's sacks came on third down plays. His first sack halted the Battlin' Bears opening drive of the second half as he pulled the quarterback down at the visitor's 20. A 4-yard punt followed. The Marauders took advantage of the excellent field position to score their second touchdown, extending UMary's lead to 17-3. Late in the third quarter, Biery forced a fumble with a sack at the RMC 22. UMary's Christopher Federico recovered the fumble and returned the ball to the RMC 14. Two plays later, the Marauders scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to claim a 23-10 advantage.

The 2025 University of Mary football team captains are Ryan Blair (QB, 5^th year, Spokane, WA), Christian Arteaga (DL, 5^th year, Corcoran, MN), Ethan Heinrich (TE, Sr., Chandler, AZ) and Christopher Federico (LB, Sr., Henderson, NV).

WELCOME COACHES
Head coach Shann Schillinger has added several new faces to his coaching staff in 2026, including offensive coordinator Austin Brown, offensive line coach Mike Person, linebacker coaches Sean Weatherspoon and Greg Hudson, and assistants Tyler Hennings, Hunter Mayginnes and Lane Caraballo… Austin Brown joins UMary from Bemidji State University and is a graduate of Dickinson State University… Mike Person is a former NFL offensive lineman from Glendive, MN… Sean Weatherspoon was a first round draft choice by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2010 NFL draft and coached Pace Academy last season… Greg Hudson played at Notre Dame and served as the defensive coordinator for the Fighting Irish, Purdue and East Carolina and has coached in NCAA Division I for over three decades.  
 
NFL TIES THAT BIND
The Marauders feature four coaches who have played in the NFL… Head coach Shann Schillinger was drafted in the sixth round of the 2010 draft by the Atlanta Falcons and played four seasons (2010-2013) for the Falcons and the Tennessee Titans… Thomas DeCoud was drafted in the 3^rd round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons and played seven seasons in the NFL with the Falcons (2008-13) and the Carolina Panthers (2014), earning a spot in the Pro Bowl in 2012… Mike Person was selected in the seventh round of the 2011 draft by the San Francisco 49ers and played nine seasons in the NFL for the 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, Seatle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs, playing 73 games between 2011-19 before joining the Miami Dolphins as an offensive assistant… Sean Weatherspoon was taken by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft, playing eight seasons for the Falcons (seven years) where he was a team captain and the Arizona Cardinals (one year) after an All-American career at Missouri.  
 
FAMILY MATTERS
Cameron Brusven, Karsyn Jablonski, Conner Harvison, Colter Harvison, Hudsen Sheldon, Levi Keeney, Brady Ruggles, Dano Hughes and Lincoln Lemar are 2nd generation Marauders as their father's played football for the Marauders… DJ Gabriel and Parker Gabriel are brothers… Xavier and Jaquawn Brackenridge are brothers… Ethan and Evan Heinrich are brothers… Luke Dockter's father Jeff coached several seasons at UMary… Logan Dockter's mother Angela played volleyball for the Marauders… Brothers Conner Harvison and Colter Harvison's mother Jennifer also played volleyball at UMary and their father Wayne was a 4-time wrestling All-American and is a member of the Marauders Hall of Fame… Hudsen Sheldon's mother Mandy is a member of the Marauders Hall of Fame for her track & field exploits… Dano Hughes' father Dan is a member of the Marauders Hall of Fame as a 2-time national wrestling champion and his mother Kristin played volleyball for UMary… Brady Ruggles father Reed is a member of the Marauders 1999 Hall of Fame football team.
 
TWO TRAVELING TROPHIES
The Marauders play two games annually for travelling trophies. UMary is a combined 13-17 in trophy games. The Marauders are 8-11 in the "Battle for the Paddle" with MSU Moorhead and 5-6 in the "Battle for the Big Lake" against Minot State.
 
JABLONSKI NAMED UMARY'S NSIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH
Senior WR Karsyn Jablonski is the Marauders NSIC Offensive Player to Watch for 2026. The Mandan, ND, native was one of the top receivers in the NSIC last season with 50 catches for 706 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 14.1 yards per catch and 5.0 receptions per game for a UMary team that ranked 10th in NCAA Division II in passing yards/game. Jablonski ranked 5th in the NSIC in touchdown catches, 8th in receptions and 9th in receiving yards… Cracking the century mark four times last season, Jablonski set a Marauders NCAA-era record for longest receiving touchdown with a 97 yard jaunt against Winona State University in the home finale. He finished with a career-best 186 yards receiving against the Warriors and caught two TDs… With 90 catches for 1,293 yards and 10 touchdowns, Jablonski has a chance to finish his career in the top ten of all three categories
 
FEDERICO NAMED UMARY'S NSIC DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO WATCH
The Marauders leader in tackles each of the last two seasons, Christopher Federico has also ranked among the top tacklers in the NSIC. In 2025, the UMary linebacker made 73 stops, including 53 solo tackles. The native of Henderson, NV, recorded seven tackles for loss with 2.5 sacks. He also intercepted a pass and broke up two others. Federico earned NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in a 40-9 UMary win at Southwest Minnesota State University after making 3.5 tackles for loss, among his 11 tackles on the day. For the 2025 season Federico ranked fifth in the NSIC for solo tackles and tackles per game (7.3). With 175 career tackles and 120 solo stops, he is on pace to crack the top 10 list all-time for the Marauders.
 
THE BLAIR PITCH & CATCH PROJECT
In three starts last season in his first year with the Marauders, QB Ryan Blair has exploited defenses for over 300 yards each time. In the Week 0 win over Midland, the graduate transfer from Whitworth University passed for 303 yards and four TDs. Returning after missing three weeks due to injury, the Spokane, WA, native threw for 348 yards and two scores against Northern State. In a win at Jamestown he passed for 341 yards and three TDs without an interception to earn NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors. In his three games Blair completed 69% of his passes (82-of-119) 992 yards and nine touchdowns with just three interceptions.

• UMary ranked 10th in the nation in passing yardage with 300 yards/game despite starting four different quarterbacks
• The Marauders four wins was the most for the program since 2021
• UMary ranked 14th in the nation in first downs
• Karsyn Jablonski caught a 97-yard scoring pass from Jordan Polo Solomon against Winona State to set a Marauders record for the longest pass in program history
• Luke Bodine earned Don Hansen honorable mention All-American honors after setting program records for a tight end with 70 catches for 796 yards and 10 TDs
