BURNSVILLE, MN - Twice ending 4^th quarter drives with sacks, University of Mary defensive lineman Vegas George earned Northern Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts in the Marauders 13-10 road win over Concordia-St. Paul.
 
George posted two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss in a record performance for the Marauders defense. The Bismarck, ND, native also totaled seven tackles and forced a fumble.
 
Both sacks by George came in the fourth quarter. On the first play of the fourth quarter with the game tied 10-10, George sacked the Golden Bears quarterback and forced a fumble, leading to a CSP punt and a game-winning drive for the UMary offense.  
 
With UMary preserving a 13-10 lead and CSP facing a 4^th-and-5 with 1:55 to play, George blew past all blockers for his second sack to end both the Golden Bears possession and hopes for victory.
 
The Marauders set a team Northern Sun record for fewest yards allowed in a game (142) and fewest first downs allowed (9).
 
George leads the NSIC with four sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. He ranks 12^th in NCAA Division II in sacks and 13^th in tackles for loss.
 
The Marauders rank sixth in NCAA Division II in sacks/game (4.0).
 
Geroge is the second UMary defensive lineman to win NSIC defensive honors this season. Travis Biery captured the honors in week 0 after recording two sacks in a 23-10 UMary win over Rocky Mountain College.
 
The Marauders next host the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday, September 19. The Tackle Hunger game is set for 2 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl. Fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable donation to the game.
