UMary women’s cross country 5th in NSIC preseason poll, Overgaauw named Athlete to Watch

BURNSVILLE, MN – University of Mary women's cross country was picked to finish 5th in the Northern Sun's preseason coaches' poll, receiving a first-place vote. Junior transfer Amanda Overgaauw was selected as the team's Athlete to Watch.

The Marauders placed 5th at the NSIC Championships and will be returning four of their five point scorers from last year's squad. The fifth, Terez Wycklendt, remains with the program this year as an assistant coach. Hannah Westin (24th), Ellyn Engels (26th), Amber Rosemeier (34th), and Giselle Jahner (38th) are all back in blue and orange this year.

"The women's team trained a lot together this summer and that always leads to great results," said UMary Track and Field/Cross Country Program Director Cale Korbelik. "They have been digging to fine tune the sport overall, not only with standard training but going for the "whys" and "wills." I believe our depth is incredibly strong this year and will help us compete against some really great teams."

Overgaauw, UMary's Athlete to Watch, joined the Marauders this year from Minnesota State University. While she did not compete at the NSIC Championships, the junior placed 40th at the NCAA Central Region Championships and 179th at the NCAA National Championships. It was her second trip to nationals after doing so with Augustana University in 2023.

"Amanda is coming off a great outdoor season and has been highly communicative so far this summer," said Korbelik. "I think she is about to really dip into her potential this year and see how much she can flourish with our system! She has already connected very well with our women's team and will be a great team culture add!"

During the track and field portion of the year, Overgaauw had three podium finishes at the NSIC Championships in the 3000m (4th), 5000m (4th), and 10000m (6th).

UMary will be hosting three meets this season following an intrasquad scrimmage at McDowell Dam on Sept. 5. The Marauders Home Opener will take place Sept. 11, the Marauders Mini Meet will occur on Oct. 16, and the Marauders Tune-Up will be on Oct. 23. All home meets are held at McDowell Dam in Bismarck, ND.

Sioux Falls, SD, will be the host site of both the NSIC Championships on Nov. 6 and the NCAA Central Region Championships on Nov. 21. The NCAA National Championships will be held on Dec. 5 in Lawrence, KS.
