BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary checks in at #7 in the third and final NCAA Central Region ranking prior to the announcement of the 2026 NCAA Division II national tournament field.
UMary has been included in all three NCAA Central Region rankings this season. This is the first season UMary has ever been listed in the NCAA regional rankings.
Eight teams will make the NCAA Central Region tournament.
The Marauders set a school record for wins in a season and finished regular season play 34-16 and placed third in the Northern Sun with a 27-10 mark.
After spending much of the season atop the NCAA Toughest Schedule Report, UMary is now listed as having played the 25
th toughest schedule in the country with the opposition claiming a cumulative win percentage of .549 through May 2. The Marauders schedule was ranked as the nation's most difficult in NCAA Division II through games of April 15. UMary has still played the most difficult schedule in the Northern Sun with Minnesota Duluth next at #40 (.538) and Augustana at #41 (.537).
UMary is 5-6 against teams listed in the Central region rankings. The Marauders opened with a 1-3 trip at Rogers State University, split four games with Minnesota State University and took 2-of-3 against Augustana.
The NCAA Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the Great American Conference (GAC). Automatic bids are awarded to the tournament champions from each conference with the final five spots awarded on an at-large basis for a total of eight teams.
The championship preliminary round competition provides for 16 regional sites that consist of either 3-team or 4-team, double-elimination tournaments. The winners of these regional-round competitions advance to a super-regional round that consist of two teams competing in a best-of-three series. The NCAA Central Regional preliminary round will consist of two 4-team double elimination tournaments.
