BURNSVILLE, MN – University of Mary head coach Tanner Spencer has directed the Marauders baseball team to a historical season and his efforts have not gone unnoticed as the Marauders all-time winningest baseball coach is the 2026 Northern Sun Baseball Coach of the Year.
 
This is the first time a UMary coach has earned this honor.
 
In his seventh season at the helm of the Marauders, Spencer has directed UMary to a school-record 34 wins. The previous high was 30 in 2002. The Marauders also set program records for Northern Sun wins with 27 to finish third in the NSIC standings and claim the #3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, also program-bests.
 
UMary additionally recorded a program-best 11-game win streak and closed out the season by winning seven straight weekend series and four straight midweek doubleheaders.
 
Spencer also directed the Marauders to their first-ever regional and national recognition.
 
UMary was listed in the first two NCAA Central Region polls, ranking sixth in the only numerical poll released this season.
 
The Marauders have also received votes and been listed as under consideration for the 2026 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) NCAA Division II Baseball Coaches Poll for four straight weeks.
UMary set a program record with five scholar-athletes named to the 2026 All-NSIC baseball team.
 
The Marauders have captured NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors three times in 2026 and NSIC and NCBWA Regional Player of the Week recognition once.
 
Spencer, who took over the Marauders program prior to the 2020 season, became UMary's all-time winningest coach this season and enters the postseason with 152 wins.
 
The Marauders, who are 34-16 overall and finished 27-10 in league play, open the NSIC tournament Wednesday, May 6, against Wayne State College. Game time is 6 pm at Augustana University's Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, SD.
