Leafgren, Haney named to NSIC all-tournament team

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Keying the University of Mary run to a third-place finish at the 2026 Northern Sun baseball tournament, seniors Bryce Leafgren and Kalem Haney earned all-tournament honors for their play in the field. Leafgren and Haney are the first Marauders to earn NSIC baseball all-tournament recognition.
 
UMary, which won an NSIC tournament game for the first time, finished with a 3-2 record and came up one game short of the championship game.
 
Leafgren finished the tournament 8-for-20 with two home runs and seven RBIs for a batting line of .400/.478/.700. The All-NSIC 2nd team first baseman posted the third-most home runs and runs batted in for the tournament. He had three games with multiple hits, including three in the tournament opener against Winona State University. In the Marauders first elimination game the Eaton, CO, native hit a grand slam and drove in five runs in an 8-1 win over Minot State University. Leafgren added an RBI in UMary's 7-6 comeback win over the University of Sioux Falls and reached base twice in an 11-9 win over Winona State. He finished with a home run and two hits in the season finale against #16 Minnesota State University. In the field he was part of six double plays and made just one error in 54 chances.
 
Haney was 8-for-23 as the Marauders leadoff hitter, also reaching twice on walks and once when he was hit by a pitch. The All-NSIC 2nd team second baseman scored five runs, homered and drove in two runs to finish with a hitting line of .348/.423/.478. He had multiple hits in three of five games and at least one hit in four games.
 
In UMary's three wins the Lethbridge, Alberta, native had seven hits. He posted two hits and scored twice against Minot State and added two hits and a run scored against Sioux Falls. In the second game against Winona State, Haney hit a leadoff home run, scored twice, drove in two runs and collected three hits while breaking the Marauders record for career hits with 207.
 
Defensively Haney cleanly handled all 30 chances and turned six double plays. The most double plays by any other middle infielder in the tournament was three.
 
The Marauders finished with a single-season program record 37 wins.
