UMary men’s golf set for The Jewel Invitational in Minnesota

LAKE CITY, MN – The University of Mary men's golf team will play the most difficult course on the schedule as they take part in The Jewel Invitational on Sept. 22 and 23. The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, MN, is the host site of the tournament put on by Winona State University.

The Marauders will be one of 11 teams competing, 10 of which are in the Northern Sun. Representing the team will be Aiden Knodel, Evan Booth, Lucas Greenlun, Lucas Schoepp, Payton Hiller, and Quinn Breidenbach. Dawson Melbo and Ryker Landers will be golfing independently.

Tee time is tomorrow at 10 a.m. and the tournament can be followed live here.

LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders placed 10th out of 12 teams at the Maverick/Golden Bear Fall Brawl last week. Lucas Greenlun led the way in 25th. Quinn Breidenbach placed 27th with Evan Booth in 45th and Aiden Knodel in 54th to round out the team scoring.

LAST TIME IN LAKE CITY
Gavin Argent had the best outing of the season last year for the Marauders, finishing 3rd overall at The Jewel. The team as a whole placed 9th with Quinn Breidenbach, Evan Booth, and Aiden Knodel following Argent's lead.

LOOKING BACK
UMary is coming off its most successful season since 2007, finishing 6th at the NSIC Championships. Junior Evan Booth was brilliant, finishing in sixth place overall and one stroke away from All-Tournament honors. As a result, Booth was named the Marauders' NSIC Athlete to Watch for this season.

PRESEASON POLL
UMary was picked to finish 9th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll. The team's personnel is largely consistent with last years, with the main difference being All-NSIC golfer Gavin Argent moving to an assistant coaching role. Argent had five top-5 finishes last season and led the scoring efforts for the Marauders throughout the season.

The other four NSIC point scorers (Booth, Quinn Breidenbach, Lucas Greenlun, and Aiden Knodel) are back this season.

NEW FACES
The Marauders added five freshman to bring the roster's total players to 19. Payton Hiller, Ryker Landers, Zach Skarperud, Hunter Steeves, and David Thomson are all set to compete collegiately for the first time.
