Due to anticipated cold weather on Saturday, March 1, games in the University of Mary Northern Sun series with Minnesota State have been reshuffled. Game two for Saturday has been shifted to Sunday, March 2, creating a doubleheader. The updated schedule is:
Friday, February 28 - a single 9-inning game at 2 pm
Saturday, March 1 - a single 9-inning game at 1:30 pm
Sunday, March 2 - a doubleheader with games at 12 noon (7-inning) and 2 pm (doubleheader).Â

THIS WEEK
After spending last weekend in the mile high elevation of the Rocky Mountains, the University of Mary baseball team heads to the great plains for five games, including the Northern Sun conference opener.
- In final preparation for NSIC play, UMary visits Missouri Western for a single non-conference game on Wednesday, February 26, in St. Joseph, MO. First pitch is scheduled for 3 pm.
- UMary opens up Northern Sun play with a four-game neutral site set over three days against Minnesota State University. The games are scheduled for Friday, February 28, through Sunday, March 2, at the Elkhorn Legion Field in Omaha, NE. THE RECORDS
The Marauders are 3-5 on the season… UMary finished the 2024 season with a record of 23-27 overall and 19-19 in the NSIC (7th place)… Missouri Southern is 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA. The Griffins finished the 2024 season 20-27 overall… The Mavericks are 2-0- overall and in the NSIC prior to playing a pair of games against Northern State on Wednesday. MSU finished 2024 37-20 overall and 29-10 in the NSIC, advancing to the NCAA tournament.

HISTORY
The Marauders are 1-3 all-time against Missouri Western. The two teams last played in 2021 with UMary earning a 7-2 win… Since 2012, the Marauders are 7-34 against the Mavericks. UMary earned a regular season 4-game split with MSU. The two teams met in the NSIC tournament with the Mavericks earning a 5-1 win in the opening round.

LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders split a pair of doubleheaders at Metropolitan State University Denver. After opening with an 11-7 loss, UMary rebounded for a 5-3 win by scoring single runs in five different innings. Sunday the Marauders dropped the opener 16-3 before scoring the final 10 runs in a 13-10 win. Â

Krece Papierski had a big weekend for the Marauders in his home state. The senior outfielder from Craig, CO, crushed three home runs and a double while driving in seven runs in a weekend split at MSU Denver. He went 7-for-16 and scored four runs while slashing .438/.471/1.063 for a 1.511 OPS while posting an extra base hit and an RBI in all four games. In the weekend finale, Papierski was 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs as UMary scored the last 10 runs to earn a 13-10 win… For the season Papierski is hitting .346/.433/.769 and leads the team with four home runs and eight RBIs in seven games.

ROUND 2
Aiden Johnson has had a pair of strong starts on the hill for UMary. The junior righthanded allowed one run in four innings in his Marauders debut against UC Colorado Springs. Last weekend he limited MSU Denver to three runs in six innings. All three runs came in the first inning as Johnson finished the day with five straight shutout innings. Â

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
Noah Hull is climbing the all-time leader board in home runs and RBIs at UMary. The senior first baseman is 3rd in home runs with 32. Tyler Liffrig (39) is the career record-holder, followed by Derek Shoen (37). The 2-time All-NSIC performer is the 7th UMary player to crack the century mark in RBIs and is 5th in program history (120). Jeff Wedul (141) and Liffrig (141) are tied for the all-time lead in runs batted in, followed by Shoen (135) and Cal James (133)… Hulls is also in the Marauders top 10 in hits (154) and doubles (32) and closing in on runs scored (95)… Six of Hull's seven hits this season are for extra bases (4 doubles, 1 triple 1 home run). The senior is hitting .280/.400/.640 with a 1.040 OPS and 7 RBIs.

- Bryce Leafgren is leading the Marauders in batting, hitting .588/.619/.647 for a 1.266 OPS in six games. He is 10-for-17 with a double and 5 RBIs.
- Kieran Gaffney leads the Marauders in runs scored with nine in eight games. The junior third baseman in his first year at UMary is hitting .385/.529/.654 with a 1.183 OPS owns two home runs and six RBIs

Kalem Haney was named to the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-Central Region team. Haney becomes the first UMary player to earn NCAA preseason all-region baseball honors from the NCBWA.

HANEY NAMED UMARY'S 2025 NSIC PLAYER TO WATCH
A junior middle infielder from Lethbridge, Alberta,
Kalem Haney was a dynamic leadoff hitter for UMary in 2024. Primarily playing second base, he hit .360/.460/.560 with a 1.010 OPS. He led the Marauders in steals (14 bases in 15 attempts) and triples (4) and was second in runs scored (48), doubles (13) while starting all 50 games. He also had five home runs. He had at least one hit in 39 games with 17 multiple hit performances. Only once did he fail to have a hit in back-to-back games. Haney was named to the 2024 All-NSIC 1st team and the 2024 NSIC All-defensive team. He earned NSIC Player of the Week honors once last year.

CHAMBERLAIN UMARY'S 2025 NSIC PRESEASON PITCHER TO WATCH
A junior right-handed pitcher from Laramie, WY,
Ryan Chamberlain finished 2024 with a record of 3-2. He pitched 51 innings over 12 appearances, including six starts. Chamberlain tossed one complete game and struck out 41 batters while walking just 12 to post a WHIP of 1.37. He tied for the team lead in wins, was second in innings pitched and fourth in strikeouts.

SPENCER 2nd IN BASEBALL COACHING WINS
In just his fifth season as the Marauders head baseball coach,
Tanner Spencer has accumulated 97 wins and moved into second place in career coaching victories at UMary. Steve LeGrand leads the way with 121 (1997-2001) with Brad Walsh third with 90 (2005-11). The Marauders have eclipsed 20 wins each of the last four seasons, the only 20 win seasons for UMary since beginning NCAA play in spring 2007.
