THIS WEEK
The University of Mary men's basketball team plays a pair of Northern Sun games this week with a split home and away schedule. The Marauders play a fourth straight home game when UMary hosts Northern State University on Thursday, December 4. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm at the McDowell Activity Center. UMary then heads across I-94 to Jamestown, ND, to play a first-ever NSIC game against conference newcomer University of Jamestown on Saturday, December 6. Game time is 1 pm at the Harold Newman Arena.

THE RECORDS
UMary is 2-4 overall, 1-0 in the Northern Sun and 1-0 in the NSIC North… Northern State is 1-5 overall, 1-0 in the NSIC and 1-0 in the NSIC North… Jamestown is 2-5 overall, 0-1 in the NSIC and 0-1 in the NSIC North.
 
OPPO RESEARCH
After opening with four losses, Northern State picked up its first win of the season in the NSIC opener with a 74-71 home win over Jamestown. The Wolves have had a tough schedule with two games against teams gaining national recognition (#20 Southern Nazarene, #RV Northern Michigan). The Wolves, under the direction of new head coach Matt Wilber, is led in scoring by James Glenn (18.0 ppg). Former UMary forward Ty Rogers is 2^nd in scoring (12.8 ppg)… Jamestown is in its first season competing in the Northern Sun and NCAA Division II. Head coach Casey Bruggeman, a former UMary assistant, is in his second season leading the Jimmies. Anthony Walters leads UJ in scoring at 15.7 ppg. Ford Okehi checks in at 11.3 ppg and 3.8 assists/game.
 
HISTORY LESSON – UMARY VS. NORTHERN STATE
In a series dating back to November 1986 when UMary defeated Northern State 76-73, the Marauders are 8-29 against the Wolves. UMary won the only meeting of last season with Northern State 76-72 on the road November 26, 2024. Ty Rogers scored a game-high 19 points and Jeremiah Jones added 15. The win snapped a 15-game win streak for the Wolves over the Marauders… UMary's last home win occurred December 4, 2015. Brandon Tyler hit a free throw with 25 seconds left to break a tie in a 60-58 Marauders win. Marquealis Edwards scored 16 points to lead UMary.
 
INTERSTATE 94 HISTORY LESSON – MARAUDERS VS. JIMMIES
Separated by just 100 miles along Interstate 94, the Marauders and the University of Jamestown have played just twice since UMary joined the Northern Sun and NCAA Division II in 2006-07 with the Jimmies winning both games. Jamestown defeated UMary last season 82-69 in Bismarck, ND, on November 14, 2024. Anthony Walters scored 35 for UJ and Kevin McGaskey had 16 for UMary. On November 11, 2017, the visiting Jimmies downed UMary 86-76… UMary last played at Jamestown January 13, 2006, with the home team downing the Marauders 82-74… The Jimmies have won the last 11 meetings with the Marauders… UMary last defeated Jamestown 67-62 on the road January 24, 2002, when both teams competed in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC-10).  
 
LAST WEEK
Playing at home for the first time this season, the Marauders picked up two wins in three chances… UMary rallied from 20 points down with 13 minutes to play to edge Minot State 78-73 in the NSIC opener. The Beavers scored the first 14 points of the game but a 27-7 Marauders run tied the game at 60-60. The win was the first for head coach Darren Tighe at UMary. Kelton Coleman led UMary with 16 points. Noah Thomas added 15 and Cayden Redfield had 12 points… UMary picked up a 2^nd straight win with an 82-71 victory over South Dakota Mines on day one of the Dakota Challenge, outscoring the Hardrockers 48-33 in the second half. Tshawn Bois came off the bench to score 19 points, hitting 4-of-6 on treys with eight rebounds. Relja Nagulic added 12 points and Andre Austin 10… #23 Black Hills State ended UMary's hopes for a 3^rd straight win with an 84-75 win over the Marauders to wrap up the Dakota Challenge. Coleman led UMary with 17 points and Redfield had 14. Cam Lowe scored 21 for the Yellow Jackets.
 
FIRST
UMary head coach Darren Tighe earned his first win at the helm of the Marauders in a 78-73 home win over Minot State University to open NSIC play. The Marauders rallied from 20 points down to get the win… Three days later Tighe gained his second win as UMary downed South Dakota Mines.  
 
STOP THIEF
Kelton Coleman leads the Northern Sun in steals. The junior guard averages 2.7 steals/game in his first season at UMary. He ranks 31^st in NCAA D2 in steals/game.
 
SWAT CITY
Jackson Ware is providing a block-shot presence for the Marauders this season. The junior forward is averaging 1.3 blocks per game, 5^th in the NSIC. He had five blocks in a win over South Dakota Mines.
 
BENCH BOOST
The Marauders bench is scoring 36.8 points/game, the 32^nd most ppg in NCAA D2 and the 2^nd most in the NSIC.
 
BALANCE
Through six games, ten Marauders are averaging at least 5.3 points per game. Kelton Coleman leads UMary in scoring at 14.2 ppg. Next up is Tshawn Bois with 9.2 ppg and Cayden Redfield at 9.0 ppg. Both Bois and Redfield have done all their damage off the bench.  
 
MINUTES
Ten Marauders average at least 17 minutes per game, with no one averaging over 23.2 minutes/game. Freshman Andre Austin leads the squad with 139 minutes played, just ahead of Kelton Coleman (138), Tamarrein Henderson (131) and Relja Nagulic (130).  
 
COLEMAN TAKES THE LEAD
Kelton Coleman, a junior from Fort Worth, TX, has led UMary in scoring four times in six games and has reached double figures five times. In his first year at UMary after playing at Augustana last season, the guard posted a season-best 18 points in the season opener against Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He averages 14.2 ppg and 4.7 rebounds/game. He has gone to the free throw line 37 times, 17 more times than anyone else on the team. Coleman also leads UMary with 16 steals.
 
AUSTIN DISPLAYING HIS POWERS
Freshman Andre Austin is off to a strong start. The Bismarck, ND, native leads the team in minuyes played (138), field goal % (.500) and assists (14). The guard averages 6.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. He scored 14 points in his first college game against Northwestern Oklahoma State University and added ten points at Chadron State. Austin graduated from Bismarck High School, where he played for Jordan Wilhelm, a four-year starter for the Marauders from 2007-11 and a member of UMary's 2011 NCAA tournament team.
 
BOARD GAMES
Aggressive on the offensive boards, the Marauders are 23^rd nationally in offensive rebounds (15.5/game). Relja Nagulic leads UMary with 7.0 rebounds per game and is 10^th in the NSIC.
 
TIGHE SET FOR HOME COACHING DEBUT
Darren Tighe (pronounced TIE) is in his first season at UMary and earned his first two wins leading the Marauders in the first two home games of the season over Thanksgiving week. Running the show is not a new experience for Tighe. In ten years as a college head coach prior to UMary Tighe has a record of 169-112. In three seasons at Ridgewater (MN) Community College (2014-17), he led the Warriors to a mark of 48-34 that included a 20-win season to break a 50 year old school record for victories... In five seasons at Mayville (ND) State University (2017-22), the Comets went 92-42, won a league title and advanced to three national tournaments. Twice he earned coach of the year honors. The first season with the Comets, Mayville State went from nine wins the previous year to 18 wins… Tighe coached the previous two years at Dakota (SD) State University. In his first season the Trojans won 17 games and posted their first winning season in eight seasons.
 
ALL IN
Fourteen Marauders played in each of UMary's first two games of the season, including 11 players who made their debuts wearing the Blue & Orange. All 14 scored in at least one of the two games. Cayden Redfield, Tamerrein Henderson and Alex Dvorak played for UMary last season. Seeing their first minutes for the Marauders was Kelton Coleman, Amare Jackson, Andre Austin, Kenny Gonzalez, Relja Nagulic, Tshawn Bois, Noah Thomas, Jackson Ware, Parker Brodina, Ryan Larson and Tyresse Poku Mensah.
 
FAMILIAR FACES
The Marauders return four players from 2024-25. Sr. G Cayden Redfield is the leading returning scorer. Last year in his first season at UMary after transferring from United Tribes, Redfield averaged 4.7 ppg in 21 games. Three times he reached double digits, including 18 points against Minnesota State… Sophomore guard Tamerrein Henderson saw action in 27 games in his first collegiate season. He scored a season-best nine points against Central Oklahoma… Sophomore guard Alex Dvorak saw action in eight games as a redshirt freshman and hit 3-of-4 trey attempts… Ryan Larson is a redshirt freshman guard who did not play last season due to injury.
 
GET TO KNOW 'EM
In addition to new head coach Darren Tighe and new assistant coach Jacob Leier, the Marauders have 12 new players on the roster… Jr. G Kenny Gonzalez is the Marauders Northern Sun Player to Watch this season. He joins the Marauders after two seasons at San Diego City College, where he averaged 12.1 points/game and earned all-conference first team honors… Jr. guard Amare Jackson averaged 16.6 ppg last year at Skagit Valley College and received All-American, All-Region and all-academic honors… Fr. G Andre Austin is a 2-time all-state player from Bismarck, ND, and played for former Marauders player Jordan Wilhelm at Bismarck High School… Jr. G Kelton Coleman played 25 games last season for NSIC rival Augustana… Tshawn Bois is a junior guard from Quebec, Canada, and transferred to UMary from Lamar (CO) Community College after scoring 13.2 ppg last year… Fr. G Tyrese Poku Mensah comes to UMary from London, England… Wyatt Westin is a Fr. G from Shiloh Christian HS in Bismarck, ND… Parker Brodina is a freshman guard from Devils Lake, ND, where he was named the 2025 North Dakota Class A Senior Athlete of the Year… New Zealand native Sini Tuakoi is a junior forward who played at the New Mexico Military Institute last year after a season at Clarendon College… Relja Nagulic, a native of Serbia, is a sophomore forward who played at Coffeyville Community College last season… A native of Australia, Jackson Ware is a junior forward joining the Marauders after playing two seasons at Purdue Northwest… Noah Thomas is a senior guard joining the Marauders from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he started 17 games last season after previously playing at Chabot College and Oregon Institute of Technology.
