Making their final home appearance before the start of Christmas break, the University of Mary men's basketball team hosts a pair of Northern Sun games. On Thursday, December 11, the Marauders host the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston at 5:30 pm. MSU Moorhead then comes to the Capitol City to faces the Marauders on Saturday, December 13, for a 3:30 pm game. Both contests will be played on Bortke Court at UMary's McDowell Activity Center.Â

Minnesota Crookston has lost five straight games since posting 115 points in a home win over Oak Hills Christian College. The Golden Eagles average 77.0 ppg while allowing 81.9 ppg. Scoring from long range, UMC makes 9.8 treys per game on 28 attempts/game. Fr. G Donez Lindsey is the leading scorer at 15.3 ppg with Jr. G Alijah Washington (13.4 ppg) and Jr. F Kazadi Mukoma, Jr., right behind (13.1 ppg)… MSU Moorhead is perfect in the NSIC through three games. Scoring an NSIC-leading 89.0 ppg, the Dragons also are next-to-last in points allowed at 82.4 ppg. The Dragons are shooting 40% on treys and 51% overall. Domini Goodman paces MSUM in scoring at 18.0 ppg with freshman Isa El-Amin second in scoring at 14.3 ppg. Isa's father Khalid El-Amin led UConn to the 1999 NCAA Division I title.Â

Since joining the Northern Sun for the 2006-07 season, the Marauders are 27-10 against the Golden Eagles… UMary is 17-3 at home and 10-7 away versus UMC… The Marauders are 19-7 in the last 26 outings against the Golden Eagles… UMary has won five straight and 7-of-8. LAST MEETING UMary completed a season sweep with a 70-69 home win February 1, 2025, over UMC. Down 69-66 with 21 seconds to play, Gunner Swanson hit two free throws before tying up the inbound pass for a steal. Ty Rogers then hit two free throws, the second with 4.5 seconds left, for the win. Alex Mattes led UMary in scoring with 18 points. Rogers added 17. Â

HISTORY LESSON – UMARY VS. MSU MOORHEAD
The Marauders trail the Dragons 29-17 in the all-time series… MSUM owns seven straight wins… Since joining the NCAA and NSIC, UMary is 12-26 against MSUM… The Marauder have won five of the last 15 games… 9 of the last 16 games were played in Moorhead… The Marauders won the first conference match-up 75-72 at MSUM on January 16, 2007… The Dragons followed with five straight wins, including an overtime victory, one win by one point and another by two points… The Marauders snapped the Dragons streak 74-58 at home on Jan. 30, 2010, the first of five straight UMary wins that concluded with a 72-51 win over 19th ranked MSUM on Jan. 7, 2012, at the MAC… The Marauders snapped an 8-game losing streak to the Dragons with a 77-73 upset win at 3rd ranked MSUM on January 8, 2016… LAST UMARY WIN The Marauders downed the visiting Dragons 80-79 on 12/2/21. Kai Hunstberry gave the Marauders a 77-75 lead with 26 seconds left and UMary held off MSUM with a pair of free throws by Kam Warrens and one by Jacob Jackson. Huntsberry and Warrens both scored 18 for UMary… LAST MEETING Wylee Delorme scored 32 points in UMary's 76-58 loss at MSU Moorhead. The 32 points equaled Eric Erdmann's total from December 2006 as the most points by a freshman in UMary's NCAA era. Delorme as 5-of-7 on treys and 8-of-13 overall while making all 11 free throws. Â

LAST WEEK
Tamarrein Henderson scored a career-high 17 points in an 87-68 home loss to Northern State. He made all three of his trey attempts and made 7-of-10 shots overall. Jackson are added 11 points. James Glenn hit. Six treys for the Wolves… In their first NSIC road game of the season and the Marauders first visit to the University of Jamestown since January 2006, UMary fell 99-91 in double overtime. Kelton Coleman led UMary with 22 points. Cayden Redfield hit all three of his try attempts and scored 12 points. Tshawn Bois and Noah Thomas both had 10. Anthony Walters had 25 points for the Jimmies. This was also the first time UMary and Jamestown had played an NSIC game against one another.Â

Leading a high-pressure Marauders defense, Kelton Coleman is second in the Northern Sun in steals and is 24th in NCAA Division II with 2.75 steals/game. As a team the Marauders average 9.5 steals/game to rank 2nd in the NSIC and 55th in the nation. UMary is also 2nd in the NSIC in turnovers forced/game (13.9).Â
SWAT CITY
Jackson Ware is providing a block-shot presence for the Marauders this season. The junior forward is averaging 1.0 blocks per game, 7th in the NSIC. He had five blocks in a win over South Dakota Mines.Â

COLEMAN TAKES THE LEAD
Kelton Coleman, a junior from Fort Worth, TX, has led UMary in scoring five times in eight games and has reached double figures six times. In his first year at UMary after playing at Augustana last season, the guard posted a season-best 22 points at Jamestown. He averages 14.5 ppg and 4.1 rebounds/game. He has gone to the free throw line 45 times, 18 more times than anyone else on the team. Coleman also leads UMary with 22 steals.Â
AUSTIN DISPLAYING HIS POWERS
Freshman Andre Austin is off to a strong start. The Bismarck, ND, native leads the team in minutes played (189) and assists (20). The guard averages 5.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. He scored 14 points in his first college game against Northwestern Oklahoma State University and added ten points at Chadron State. Austin graduated from Bismarck High School, where he played for Jordan Wilhelm, a four-year starter for the Marauders from 2007-11 and a member of UMary's 2011 NCAA tournament team.Â
BOARD GAMES
Aggressive on the offensive boards, the Marauders are 52nd nationally in offensive rebounds (13.9/game). Relja Nagulic leads UMary with 5.9 rebounds per game and is 14th in the NSIC.Â
FIRST
UMary head coach Darren Tighe earned his first win at the helm of the Marauders in a 78-73 home win over Minot State University to open NSIC play. The Marauders rallied from 20 points down to get the win… Three days later Tighe gained his second win as UMary downed South Dakota Mines. Â
TIGHE SET FOR HOME COACHING DEBUT
Darren Tighe (pronounced TIE) is in his first season at UMary and earned his first two wins leading the Marauders in the first two home games of the season over Thanksgiving week. Running the show is not a new experience for Tighe. In ten years as a college head coach prior to UMary Tighe has a record of 169-112. In three seasons at Ridgewater (MN) Community College (2014-17), he led the Warriors to a mark of 48-34 that included a 20-win season to break a 50 year old school record for victories... In five seasons at Mayville (ND) State University (2017-22), the Comets went 92-42, won a league title and advanced to three national tournaments. Twice he earned coach of the year honors. The first season with the Comets, Mayville State went from nine wins the previous year to 18 wins… Tighe coached the previous two years at Dakota (SD) State University. In his first season the Trojans won 17 games and posted their first winning season in eight seasons.Â

Fourteen Marauders played in each of UMary's first two games of the season, including 11 players who made their debuts wearing the Blue & Orange. All 14 scored in at least one of the two games. Cayden Redfield, Tamerrein Henderson and Alex Dvorak played for UMary last season. Seeing their first minutes for the Marauders was Kelton Coleman, Amare Jackson, Andre Austin, Kenny Gonzalez, Relja Nagulic, Tshawn Bois, Noah Thomas, Jackson Ware, Parker Brodina, Ryan Larson and Tyresse Poku Mensah.Â
FAMILIAR FACES
The Marauders return four players from 2024-25. Sr. G Cayden Redfield is the leading returning scorer. Last year in his first season at UMary after transferring from United Tribes, Redfield averaged 4.7 ppg in 21 games. Three times he reached double digits, including 18 points against Minnesota State… Sophomore guard Tamerrein Henderson saw action in 27 games in his first collegiate season. He scored a season-best nine points against Central Oklahoma… Sophomore guard Alex Dvorak saw action in eight games as a redshirt freshman and hit 3-of-4 trey attempts… Ryan Larson is a redshirt freshman guard who did not play last season due to injury.Â
GET TO KNOW 'EM
In addition to new head coach Darren Tighe and new assistant coach Jacob Leier, the Marauders have 12 new players on the roster… Jr. G Kenny Gonzalez is the Marauders Northern Sun Player to Watch this season. He joins the Marauders after two seasons at San Diego City College, where he averaged 12.1 points/game and earned all-conference first team honors… Jr. guard Amare Jackson averaged 16.6 ppg last year at Skagit Valley College and received All-American, All-Region and all-academic honors… Fr. G Andre Austin is a 2-time all-state player from Bismarck, ND, and played for former Marauders player Jordan Wilhelm at Bismarck High School… Jr. G Kelton Coleman played 25 games last season for NSIC rival Augustana… Tshawn Bois is a junior guard from Quebec, Canada, and transferred to UMary from Lamar (CO) Community College after scoring 13.2 ppg last year… Fr. G Tyrese Poku Mensah comes to UMary from London, England… Wyatt Westin is a Fr. G from Shiloh Christian HS in Bismarck, ND… Parker Brodina is a freshman guard from Devils Lake, ND, where he was named the 2025 North Dakota Class A Senior Athlete of the Year… New Zealand native Sini Tuakoi is a junior forward who played at the New Mexico Military Institute last year after a season at Clarendon College… Relja Nagulic, a native of Serbia, is a sophomore forward who played at Coffeyville Community College last season… A native of Australia, Jackson Ware is a junior forward joining the Marauders after playing two seasons at Purdue Northwest… Noah Thomas is a senior guard joining the Marauders from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he started 17 games last season after previously playing at Chabot College and Oregon Institute of Technology.Â
