Marauders make Municipal Ballpark season debut on WHITE OUT WEDNESDAY against Wolves

THIS WEEK
After playing in their hometown for the first time last week, the University of Mary baseball team plays in their home ballfield for the first time Wednesday, April 10, when the Marauders host the Northern State University Wolves at Municipal Ballpark. First pitch in the Northern Sun doubleheader between the Marauders and the Wolves is 1:30 pm.
 
This will be the Marauders first NSIC home games of the season.
 
WHITE OUT WEDNESDAY!
Make sure to wear your WHITE to the Marauders baseball games on Wednesday, April 10, as University of Mary Sports Management students are holding a WHITE OUT! Max's Marauders will host an Egg hunt for both UMary students and fans of all ages. Additionally April 13 is Summer Saturday for UMary softball that features a youth egg hunt and Max's Marauders Grand Prize Hunt.

BACK ON THE ROAD
After hosting the Wolves on Wednesday, the Marauders visit St. Cloud State University for a 3-game set Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 12 noon with a single game Sunday starting at 12 noon.

THE RECORDS
The Marauders are 11-17 overall and 7-11 (11th place) in the Northern Sun… The Wolves are 12-18 overall and 7-13 (12th place) in the Northern Sun… Prior to a midweek series at Concordia-St. Paul, the Huskies are 18-11 overall 14-5 (T-3rd) in the NSIC.  
 
LAST WEEK
In their first home game of the season, UMary's 9th inning rally fell just short in a 5-4 non-conference loss to Dickinson State University…  Augustana then swept a 4-game series from visiting UMary. Michael Polson posted four hits – including a home run – over the first two games and was 5-for-13 for the series with a home run and a triple… Kalem Haney was 4-for-7 in the last three games with a double.
 
BOOM
After setting a team record for home runs last season with 72 home runs, UMary is one of the top long ball squads in the nation. The Marauders are 7th in NCAA Division II in home runs/game (1.71) and 19th in total home runs (49). UMary is 18th in the nation in slugging percentage (.522)… the Marauders need three more home runs to equal the second-most home runs hit in program history – 51 in 2022.
 
RUNS GALORE
The Marauders are 5th in the NSIC in runs per game (7.3).
 
BECK BITES
Freshman Carter Beck is off to a tremendous start to his collegiate career. The outfielder from Carnduf, Saskatchewan, is among the NCAA D2 leaders in numerous hitting categories. He is s hitting .367/.457/.724 with a 1.181 OPS. In 26 games he has scored 26 runs, has four doubles, two triples and nine home runs with 35 RBIs. Beck ranks highly in several categories in NCAA Division II:
  • 31st home runs/game (.35)
  • 30th RBIs/game (1.35)
  • 52nd slugging percentage (.724)

THE BATS
  • Playing a combination of positions this season, Michael Polson is hitting .336/.381/.626 for a 1.007 OPS. He has seven doubles, three triples and six home runs with 21 runs scored and 23 RBIs.
  • A triple machine with a team-leading four on the season, So. 2B Kalem Haney is hitting .340/.457/.538 with a .995 OPS. He leads the team with 27 runs scored, owns 21 RBIs, and has seven doubles and two home runs.
  • An All-NSIC DH last year as the Marauders home run leader, Noah Hull is playing 1B and is hitting .321/.395/.578 with a .973 OPS. Hull has seven home runs, scored 21 times and has driven in 22.
  • Newcomer Dylan Edmands, a Sr. 3B who transferred from Liberty University, is hitting .258/.340/.452 (.792 OPS) with 23 runs scored, five home runs and 15 RBIs.
  • Daniel Martin is third on the team with five home runs. The Sr. OF owns a slash line of .287/.395/.485 (.880 OPS). He has scored 21 times and driven in 15.
 
THE HILL
  • Sr. RHP Paxton Miller leads the Marauders starters with a 6.35 ERA this season. He has 31 strikeouts in 34 innings, both team highs.
  • Alec Danen owns a 2-2 record in his first season at UMary. The RHP from Sheboygan, WI, transferred to the Marauders from Viterbo University has a 7.57 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP with 23 strikeouts in 27.1 innings.
  • Mark Schommer has struck out 16 hitters in 8.1 innings of relief. He has yet to allow a run or a walk in five games and owns the Marauders two saves. He has a 1-0 record.
 
FUNDAMENTALS
The Marauders have committed just 35 errors in 28 games for a .963 fielding percentage. UMary opponents have committed 45 errors and have a .952 fielding percentage. 
 
UMARY HOSTING 2024 NSIC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT
The 2024 NSIC Baseball Tournament features the top eight teams in the final NSIC standings. The eight-team double elimination NSIC Tournament takes place May 8-11, hosted by the University of Mary for  second straight season at Veterans Memorial/Municipal Ballparks in Mandan and Bismarck, ND.
 
HULL NAMED NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK MARCH 18
University of Mary first baseman Noah Hull earned Northern Sun Baseball Player of the Week honors March 18 after leading the Marauders to three wins in four games against Concordia-St. Paul. Hull led a Marauders offensive onslaught that hit 13 home runs and scored 48 runs in the weekend series. Hull slashed .562/.611/1.250 (9-of-17) for an OPS of 1.861 in four games. The senior from Scarborough, Ontario, had at least one hit in every game and recorded two doubles and three home runs while scoring seven runs and driving in six.
 
The 2023 All-NSIC second team designated hitter went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and three runs scored in an opening 16-15 walk-off win. He finished the series with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored in the final game.

2024 NSIC PLAYER TO WATCH
Noah Hull earned All-NSIC second team honors in 2023 at designated hitter. The senior from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, blasted 13 home runs to just miss the school record of 14. Hull helped the Marauders hit 72 home runs as a team to obliterate the former school record of 51, set in 2022. Also a left fielder, Hull hit .316 with a .432 on base percentage and a .652 slugging percentage in his second season at UMary. He added 11 doubles and a triple, scored 35 runs and drove in 38.
 
2024 NSIC PITCHER TO WATCH
A right-hander relief pitcher from New Ulm, MN, Mark Schommer led the Marauders in saves with four in 2023. He also tied for the team lead in appearances (15), ERA (1.10) and WHIP (1.16). In 16.1 innings he struck out 15 and allowed just 12 hits and seven walks. A 2-time Northern Sun All-Academic Team member, Schommer earned CSC Academic All-District honors in 2023.
 
2024 NSIC PRESEASON POLL
The Marauders are picked to finish 9th in the NSIC Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll. Augustana is the preseason favorite, followed by Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, Minnesota Crookston, Southwest Minnesota State, Wayne State, Minot State, Winona State, UMary, Sioux Falls, Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota Duluth, Northern State and Bemidji State.
