Shorthanded Marauders fall to D1 Fighting Hawks

GRAND FORKS, ND – Competing against their fourth NCAA Division I opponent, the shorthanded University of Mary tennis team fell to the University of North Dakota 7-0.

The match opened with UND (9-10 overall) defeating UMary (4-4, 3-0 NSIC) 3-0 in doubles competition, giving them one team point. Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag were defeated 6-3 by Andrea Jansson and Sapir Selain #1 doubles. The team of Hala Hossam Awad and Maria Estinvil lost 6-2 in # 2 doubles to Jule Schulte and Nore Heinitz. The Marauders forfeited #3 doubles to the Fighting Hawks.

Chloe Chong lost 6-3, 6-0 in #1 singles to Sapir Sela.

Hala Hossam Awad battled hard but ultimately fell to Andrea Jansson 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 due to losing a super tiebreaker in #2 singles.

In #3 singles, Ilona Freitag fell 6-1, 6-4 to Jule Schulte.  

Maria Estinvil was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Nore Heinitz in #4 singles.

Luba Moyo fell in #5 singles 6-0, 6-0 to Lucia Rizza.

UMary forfeited #6 singles to UND.

UP NEXT
The Marauders head to Fargo, ND, to challenge the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, March 23, at 2 pm. UMary was scheduled to take on St. Cloud State University on Sunday, March 24, but the match has been postponed due to inclement weather.
