ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A clutch performance by
Ilona Freitag helped the University of Mary tennis team pick an impressive 4-3 victory over Eckerd College. This is the Marauders first victory over the Tritons after having lost their last two matchups by a 4-3 score.
The day started with UMary (4-2, 3-0 NSIC) taking down EC (4-3 overall) 2-1 in doubles competition, giving them one team point.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag defeated Ericka Chavarria and Catherine Cole 6-1 in #1 doubles.
Hala Hossam Awad and
Maria Estinvil won 6-3 over Kylie Misdorp and Maya Soligo in #2 doubles.
Emily Needham and
Luba Moyo fell in #3 doubles 6-3 to Maialen Idiakez and Olivia Lindestaf.
Freitag captured the match for the Marauders by coming back from behind to defeat Ericka Chavarria in #3 singles 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.
Maria Estinvil shut out Julia Triska 6-0, 6-0 in #4 singles.
Emily Needham won 6-4, 6-2 in #5 singles over Maialen Idiakez.
Chloe Chong lost to Kylie Misdorp 6-1, 6-2 in #1 singles.
Hala Hossam Awad was defeated in a close back-and-forth battle 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 in #2 singles to Olivia Lindestaf.
Luba Moyo retired from #6 singles, which gave Maya Soligo the victory.
