ORLANDO, FL – The University of Mary tennis team fought through adversity but could not overcome NCAA Division I opponent Oakland University, losing 7-0.
The day opened with OU (3-5) defeating UMary (3-2, 3-0 NSIC) 2-1 in doubles competition, giving them one team point.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag won 6-4 in #1 doubles over Isabelle Popma and Emma Hultqvist.
Hala Hossam Awad and
Maria Estinvil lost 6-3 to Emilia Jarvinen and Edie Hammond in #2 doubles. The Marauders didn't have enough competitors for #3 doubles and forfeited to the team of Tara Montreuil and Alma Orenstain.
Hala Hossam Awad had to forfeit #1 singles to Emilia Jarvinen.
Chloe Chong competed well in #2 singles but was edged out by Edie Hammond 6-4, 7-5.
Ilona Freitag lost in #3 singles 6-2, 6-2 to Isabelle Popma.
Maria Estinvil went back and forth with Emma Hultqvist in #4 singles as she just lost out 3-6, 7-6, 10-3.
Luba Moyo was defeated in #5 singles by Tara Montreuil 6-0, 6-0.
UMary forfeited #6 singles to Aya Orenstain.
