Owatonna, MN - Hala Hossam Awad comes up big for the University of Mary tennis team as UMary (2-0, 2-0 Northern Sun) picked up a huge 4-3 conference win over Minnesota State University, Mankato (2-1, 1-1 NSIC).
The Marauders, who had lost four straight to the Mavericks, were picked 3
rd in the NSIC preseason coaches poll with Minnesota State ranked 2
nd.
Hala Hossam Awad clinched the victory for the Marauders in clutch fashion after she fell behind in the first set. Awad defeated Freia Lawrence 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in #2 singles.
The event began with MSU winning in doubles competition, giving them one team point.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag fell to Chiara Carnelutti and Avery Stilwell 7-5 in #1 doubles.
The team of
Hala Hossam Awad and
Maria Estinvil was dominant in #2 doubles, winning 6-1 over Freia Lawrence and Hana Minisy.
Emily Needham and
Luba Moyo lost 6-1 to
Elizabeth Felderman and McKenna DeMarce in #3 doubles.
Chloe Chong continues her great start to the season by defeating Chiara Carnelutti 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in #1 singles.
Maria Estinvil remains undefeated in #4 singles, defeating Daria Podmogilnaia 6-3, 7-6.
Luba Moyo won due to her opponent retiring in #6 singles.
Ilona Freitag lost 6-2, 6-4 to Avery Stilwell in #3 singles.
Emily Needham fell to Elizabeth Felderman in #5 singles 6-3, 6-3.
