#13 Marauders visit #18 Wolves Friday before hosting Jimmies Sunday

BISMARCK, ND – It's a clash of ranked teams as the #13 University of Mary wrestling team travels to Aberdeen, SD, to challenge #18 Northern State University on Friday, January 2, at 7 pm. The Marauders then return home to host the University of Jamestown at the McDowell Activity Center on Sunday, January 4, at 2 pm.
 
UMary is 8-4 on the year and 4-2 in the Northern Sun.

LIDBERG AMONG NCAA D2 LEADERS IN TECH FALLS
Wyatt Lidberg ranks 7th in NCAA Division II with seven technical falls this season. It has taken the 184-pound junior out of Albertville, MN, just 32:52:00 to complete the six tech falls. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The #13 Marauders split a pair of home duals… UMary dropped a 24-12 to #14 Augustana to open the weekend. Reece Barnhardt had a pin to account for half the UMary points… The Marauders had a record day with a 49-0 win over Sioux Falls as Barnhardt had another win by pin. Among the ten wins were four by pin, three by technical fall and one by major decision.

UMary broke several NCAA-era school records in the 49-0 win over Sioux Falls:
  • Most points scored in a dual against an NCAA opponent (48-3 win vs. Central Missouri 1/22/12)
  • Tied for most points in a dual against all opponents (49-5 win vs University of Regina 11/7/2015)
  • Largest margin of victory over an NCAA D2 opponent (48-3 win vs. Central Missouri 1/22/12)
  • Largest Margin of victory (47-0 win vs. University of Jamestown 12/2/15)
  • Most team points in an NSIC match (42 vs. Southwest Minnesota State 12/1/23, vs. Minot State 1/22/24)

OPPO RESEARCH – NORTHERN STATE
NSU is 7-9 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC. UMary fell to NSU last season as the Wolves won via a tiebreaker as the score finished 17-17.  The Wolves have two wrestlers nationally ranked:

Jamestown is 6-7 on the year. Last season, the Marauders defeated the Jimmies 43-10. Reece Barnhardt and Jaden Verhagen both earned pinfalls in the UMary victory.

The Marauders are ranked 13th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II Men's Coaches' Poll released January 22. UMary was ranked 9th in the preseason poll.

The Marauders will have four Bismarck natives competing in their starting lineup, representing every Bismarck school that has a wrestling program. Reece Barnhardt (St. Mary's Central High School), Kaden Decoteau (Century High School), Kaden Renner (Bismarck High School) and Matthew Kaylor (Legacy High School) all look to represent the local community.
 
BRUSS BECOMES ALL-TIME WINS LEADER IN NCAA HISTORY
Max Bruss now holds the record for most NCAA wins in UMary history with 108 wins. Bruss surpassed his former teammate Tate Barnhardt (103 wins) for most wins in a UMary career. Bruss is currently ranked number five in the country and is coming off a year where he earned All-American status after taking 5th place in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships.
