BISMARCK, ND – University of Mary women's golf defended its home course, winning the Marauders Tournament at Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck, ND. Junior
Carrie Carmichael won the individual title after a two-hole playoff, her second victory this season.
Competing against UMary at the tournament were Black Hills State University and Minot State University. The team battled rough conditions on both days. On Monday, winds reached 25 mph during play. Then on Tuesday, play was delayed by an hour due to frost on the course. The wind, however, was much less of a factor, leading to an 18-stroke improvement for the Marauders on day 2.
"That was a tough one," said fourth-year head coach
Marion Hernandez. "We're happy to come away with another title."
Carmichael had an excellent day 2 to close a two-stroke gap between her and day 1 leader Holly Knudsen of Minot State. After 36 holes, Knudsen and Carmichael were tied at 162 (+18). A two-hole playoff was necessary, and Carmichael was victorious.
Behind Carmichael,
Grace Stroh placed 4
th with a 170 (+26).
Abby Thelen landed in the top-10 in a tie for 9
th with a 182 (+38). Freshman
Annie Neva was one stroke behind in 11
