BISMARCK, ND – A 19-stroke improvement on day 2 helped the University of Mary men's golf team place third at the Marauders Invitational on their home course at Hawktree Golf Course in Bismarck, ND. Senior captain
Gavin Argent continued his great play with a 2
nd place finish individually.
There were 9 teams participating in the Marauders Invitational and UMary held the third spot in the standings throughout. After heavy winds on Monday produced high scores for everyone, things settled down on Tuesday as teams saw their scores improve dramatically. For the Marauders, they tallied an even 300 (+12) on day 2.
"We had a bunch of good rounds from our men's team," said third-year head coach
Laif Olson. "Gavin [Argent] led the way once again. Two tournaments left and we are set for some really good play."
Argent was stellar at home, sinking eight birdies over the two days. He was able to battle the elements on Monday with a 74 (+2) and shot an even par 72 earlier today. It was his third consecutive top-5 finish, including the dual against Minot State University last Friday.
Behind Argent was
Aiden Knodel in a tie for 3
rd with a 149 (+5).
Lucas Greenlun placed just outside the top-10 with a 156 (+12) in 11
th overall.
Dawson Melbo landed in a tie for 13
th shooting a 158 (+14).
Evan Booth was in 15
th with a 159 (+15).

Billings, MT will be the home of the Marauders' next meet, as UMary heads to the Briarwood Shootout hosted by Montana State University – Billings. The tournament will take place at Briarwood Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7 and 8.
