CEDAR FALLS, IA – An impressive weekend for the #15 University of Mary wrestling team concluded with a sixth place finish at the NWCA Division II National Duals after UMary went 1-1 on day two and 3-2 overall.
 
The Marauders kicked off the day in a thrilling nailbiter against #10 McKendree University, where UMary won on a tiebreaker after the score finished 19-19. The Marauders then fell to #7 University of Nebraska at Kearney 24-13 in the fifth-place match.
 
The day was highlighted by solid performances by Reece Barnhardt, Braydon Huber, Wyatt Lidberg and Matthew Kaylor, as all four went undefeated.
 
UMary's next contest is on the road against #4 UW-Parkside on Friday, January 12 at 6 pm in Kenosha, WI.   
 
CONSOLATION SEMIFINALS | #15 University of Mary 19 #5 McKendree University 19 (tiebreaker: 43.0 vs 33.0)
It was an exciting back-and-forth contest between the Marauders and the Bearcats as UMary would advance to the fifth-place match off a tiebreaker. Three straight victories by Bruss, Lidberg and Kaylor proved to be crucial for the Marauders advancing.
 
#7 Reece Barnhardt (133) put the Marauders on the board, winning via an 11-4 decision over Ryan Ripplinger.
 
Braydon Huber (157) put on a dominant performance by pinning Josh Laubach at the 1:12 mark.
 
#5 Max Bruss (174) showcased his skills by defeating #7 Matt Ortiz by a 6-1 decision.
 
#9 Wyatt Lidberg (184) shut out Zeke Waltz, winning by an 8-0 major decision. 
 
#8 Matt Kaylor (197) kept the momentum going for UMary as he won by a 7-1 decision over Logan Kvien.
 
#7 Luke Tweeton (285) lost the final match to Tyler Haynes by a 2-1 decision to tie the dual score at 19.
 
The Marauders would advance to the fifth-place match by winning the tiebreaker.
 
Kaden Renner (149) fell to Ryan Schepers by a 3-2 decision.
 
Leo Mushinsky (165) lost a 3-2 decision to #4 Ryan Schepers.

#7 Reece Barnhardt (133) earned his second win on the day after he defeated Drew Arnold by a 4-2 decision.
 
Braydon Huber (157) continues his strong day by defeating Nicholas Stoltenberg by an 11-3 major decision.
 
#9 Wyatt Lidberg (184) picked up a huge 4-2 decision victory over two-time All-American Billy Higgins.
 
#7 Matthew Kaylor kept the momentum going by defeating #5 Jackson Kinsella after he scored a late takedown in overtime to win a 5-2 sudden victory.
