BISMARCK, ND – It was a dominant performance by the #15 University of Mary wrestling team as the Marauders knocked off in-state rivals Minot State University 42-3 in the seventh annual Battle for the Barrel.
UMary has won all seven Battle for the Barrel matchups. This marks the largest margin of victory that UMary has recorded over MSU.
The Marauders won nine out of the ten matches. UMary won four by pinfall, one by tech fall and two by major decision.
Jaden Verhagen (125) kicked off the dual in exciting fashion, pinning Logen Fischer at the 3:32 mark. #7
Reece Barnhardt (133) kept things going for the Marauders as he defeated Wayne Joint by a 10-2 major decision.
Kaden DeCoteau (141) scored a huge win, defeating Evan Vieira by a 15-0 tech fall at the 2:00 mark. Not to be outdone,
Kaden Renner (149) pinned Isaac Ortega at the 1:25 mark.
Braydon Huber (157) showcased his skills, defeating Kelby Armstrong by a 12-1 major decision.
Following a Beavers victory at 165, #5
Max Bruss (174) pinned Daniels Bendiks at the 6:16 mark. Earlier in the season, Bruss pinned Bendiks at the 6:46 mark.
For the fourth time in the dual a Marauder pinned a Beaver as #9
Wyatt Lidberg pinned Cayden White at the 1:55 mark. #8
Matthew Kaylor followed that performance by winning an 8-4 decision over Cannon Potts.
Finishing off the day in style was #7
Luke Tweeton, who defeated #6 Jake Swriple by a 3-2 sudden victory due to riding time.
Due to his victory over a high-ranked opponent,
Luke Tweeton was named Dude of the Dual.
The Marauders are now 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the Northern Sun. UMary's next competition is at home against #17 Augustana University on Friday, January 26, at 7 pm.
