BISMARCK, ND - Northern Sun softball action opens Tuesday afternoon for the University of Mary Softball team. The Marauders will venture up Highway-83 to face Minot State University in a doubleheader slated for 12 pm and 2 pm first pitches. The games will be played inside Minot State's Air-Supported Dome over Herb Parker Stadium.
THE RECORDS
UMary Softball stands 5-14 overall following non-conference play while Minot State has started 13-9 heading into Tuesday. The Beavers defeated the Marauders 17-6 in the season opener for both teams on February 4.
LAST TIME OUT
In their most recent games, the Marauders had a solid outing in the spring games on March 13-17 in Leesburg, FL. UMary went 3-5 in four days of doubleheaders and scored 43 total runs through eight games.
Nicole Eckhardt was very impressive inside the circle, earning each of the three wins and two shutouts to highlight the Marauders efforts.
PLAYERS TO WATCH - MARAUDERS
True freshman
Janelle Bergmann currently leads the Marauders hitting with an impressive .432 batting average, 1.019 OPS, and a team-high three stolen bases.
Junior outfielder
Brooke De Jonge has started in all 19 of the Marauders games this season and has produced strong offensive numbers with a .383 batting average, .987 OPS, 12 RBIs, and four extra-base hits including a home run.
Francesca Villaneda has been another true freshman standout, who is currently hitting .333 with 12 RBIs.
Madison Wszolek is currently batting .333 with five extra-base hits including a home run. The senior catcher from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada has also thrown out three runners on the base paths.
Nicole Eckhardt currently stands 4-2 with a save on the season, and the leads the Marauders in lowest ERA (5.96), complete games (4), and strikeouts (31).
PLAYERS TO WATCH - BEAVERS
The Beavers also have an impressive true freshman in infielder Paige Kellogg. Kellogg is batting .421 currently with a 1.204 OPS, six extra-base hits, two home runs, and 14 RBIs.
Gabi Dawyduk is currently hitting .377 with an OPS of 1.007, four triples, and 11 RBIs.
Calley Olson leads the Beavers pitching staff as the freshman right-hander is 5-1 overall, and has struck out 37 batters in 41.0 innings.
