MARSHALL, MN - Less than a day after sweeping Augustana University, the #14 University of Mary wrestling team asserted their dominance over #22 Southwest Minnesota State University, going a perfect 2-0 against the two ranked squads this weekend. Saturday's 39-3 victory gives UMary their 5th straight win in match-up history over SMSU.
The Marauders started off strong with a pin-fall victory from
Jaden Verhagen over Ben Emrich. Just 18 seconds into the second period, Verhagen secured a defensive pin to win the match. This strong performance from Verhagen earned him NDPF Dude of the Dual for the Marauders.
UMary gained another 6 team points with a forfeit from the Mustangs, giving
Reece Barnhardt a default victory. The Marauders headed into their third match-up with a modest 12-0 lead.
Laken Boese started the 141 pound match strong with a takedown in the first period. Boese stayed strong throughout the match, finishing with a 9-3 decision.
Leo Mushinsky added to the Marauder's momentum with a 13-1 major decision victory at 149.
The Mustangs showed some effort in a close match-up between Lincoln Turnman and Sean Howk at 157. Turman put up a strong fight throughout the match, but Howk got the edge in the third period with an escape point.
Following intermission,
Riley Noble took on Lucas Hodges in a close head-to-head match-up. Hodges had the edge after the first period 2-1, but Noble wrestled aggressively to tie it up in the second period and maintained solid defense, closing out the match with an 8-7 decision.

Max Bruss dominated his opponent with a pin-fall victory at just 2:35, giving the Marauders' a comfortable lead of 22-3.
Wyatt Lidberg followed with another vigorous performance securing a 15-0 tech-fall victory in the second period. These two commanding performances solidified the Marauder's victory with a 33-3 team score.
Matthew Kaylor controlled his match for a 6-4 decision in the second-to-last match of the dual. In a tight heavyweight match-up,
Luke Tweeton closed out the dual with a 3-1 decision in the tiebreaker overtime. A confident take-down in the first period of overtime secured Tweeton the victory over the #11 Jacob Dykes.

The Marauders take the confidence from this weekend sweep back home to the MAC to host #5 St. Cloud State (12-1, 5-1 NSIC) on February 10. UMary will take on the traditionally challenging Huskies on Friday at 7 pm. The Marauders will then host Northern State University (9-4, 4-3 NSIC) Saturday, February 11 at 7 pm.
