BISMARCK, ND - The #14 University of Mary Wrestling team (13-4, 6-3 NSIC) closed the home schedule for the season with another exhilarating dual against #20 Northern State University (10-5, 5-4 NSIC).
Laken Boese started the night off with a gritty win in overtime and
Reece Barnhardt bookended it with another impressive victory. At the dual's completion, both squads were deadlocked 17-17. The tiebreaker came down to total match points, which Northern State just edged UMary 64-55 to take the final dual before Super Regionals in two weeks.
The dual kicked off with a marathon at 141. Both
Laken Boese and Kolton Roth battled hard through blood stoppages and were tied 6-6 at the end of regulation. Forty seconds into overtime, Boese grappled Roth hard to the mat before twisting around for the takedown and the decisive sudden victory finish.
Wyatt Turnquist answered back for the Wolves with a 5-2 decision victory at 149 pounds. NSU would make it two in a row with Devin Bahr picking up an impressive 13-3 major decision at 157.
Riley Noble fought back for a big takedown with 0:30 left in the third period, forcing overtime at 165 pounds. Chase Bloomquist gained the upper hand on Noble after an early struggle, giving the Wolves their third straight victory with a first-overtime takedown.
Max Bruss gave the MAC Mob life heading into intermission as the #2-ranked 174-pounder picked up a 5-2 decision victory.
Wyatt Lidberg gave the Marauders even more momentum after the break with an impressive 11-3 victory at 184 pounds. Cole Huss followed up with a strong display and a 16-4 major decision of his own at 197.
Luke Tweeton showed grit in the heavyweight matchup, picking up a 3-2 decision to keep the Marauders within one team point down to the final two matches.
After Landen Fischer held on to an 8-4 decision at 125, the Marauders needed a big performance from #3-ranked 133-pounder
Reece Barnhardt. Barnhardt delivered with an exhilarating effort, picking up a 10-2 major decision to tie the team score at 17-17. The tiebreaker came down to match points, which favored Northern State by a total of 64-55, giving the Wolves the dual victory.

After a strong dual season, the Marauders will work hard in preparation for the NCAA DII Super Regional V on Saturday, February 25 in Aberdeen, SD.
If a Marauder wrestler places 3rd or higher in their weight class at regionals, then they will punch their ticket to Cedar Rapids, IA for the NCAA II National Tournament March 10-11.
