BISMARCK, ND - The #14 University of Mary Wrestling team (13-3, 6-2 NSIC) started the final home weekend of the season with a strong showing against one of the most formidable squads in the nation.
Max Bruss,
Wyatt Lidberg,
Luke Tweeton, and
Reece Barnhardt elevated the MAC with gutsy wins to lead the Marauders efforts as #5 St. Cloud State (13-1, 6-1 NSIC) would take the dual 19-13. The Huskies win on Friday marks their second dual victory of the season over the Marauders.Â
The dual began with stiff competition. After Anthony Herrara started the night off with a 6-1 decision at 165, #2
Max Bruss answered back with a 1-0 win over Bryce Dagel to uplift the MAC Mob.Â
In one of the most competitive matches of the night,
Wyatt Lidberg defeated Bryce Fitzpatrick 8-5 in an excellent back-and-forth display. A reversal by Lidberg with just 0:51 seconds remaining would give him the big victory.Â
10th ranked Dominic Murphy would knot the team score back up for the Huskies with an 8-2 victory at 197 pounds.
Luke Tweeton answered with a tremendous finish in the heavyweight matchup. Tied 1-1 in the winding seconds, Tweeton shot in on a single-leg takedown, gaining control of Elijah Novak with just 0:03 left to seal a momentous victory heading into intermission.Â
7th ranked 125-pounder Paxton Creese earned an 11-5 decision for the Huskies coming out of intermission. 3rd ranked 133-pounder
Reece Barnhardt answered yet again for the Marauders, wrestling a great match for a 14-1 major decision over Caleb Meekins. It was the first bonus-point victory for either side in the dual, and Barnhardt also rectified an earlier loss this season to Meekins.Â
After Barnhardt's victory, the Marauders led the high-powered Huskies 13-9 in the team score. St. Cloud State took over with three straight victories in the final matches. #11 Alyeus Craig and #8 Joey Bianchini earned decision victories at 141 and 149. #2 Nick Novak rolled to an 8-0 major decision to lift the Huskies to a 19-13 dual victory.Â
