Marauders moved to 6th in 8th ACHA rankings of season

UNION LAKE, MI – Following a weekend split with a top four team in the country, the University of Mary is ranked 6th nationally in the 8th American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division 1 poll of the 2023-24 season.

After occupying the 5th slot of the ACHA computer rankings the previous two weeks, the Marauders were bumped down one slot to 6th in the latest poll. UMary split a home and home series last weekend against the University of Jamestown. The Jimmies moved up one rung to 3rd in the rankings after a series split with the Marauders where both teams protected their home ice.

Adrian remains atop the Top 25 poll, followed by Minot State University, Jamestown, University of Central Oklahoma, University of Nevada Las Vegas and UMary.

The Marauders were ranked #23 in the ACHA MD1 preseason poll, before moving to #21 in the first regular season poll. In the 2nd ACHA MD1 poll of the season the Marauders moved up one more spot to #20 before reaching #19. In the first computer rankings the Marauders jumped to #4 before checking in at #3 in the 5th ACHA MD1 poll released Nov. 8. UMary was ranked 5th in the 6th and 7th polls.

UMary has had impressive success against teams in the newest ACHA rankings:
  • Missouri State, swept by the Marauders earlier this season in Mandan, is now #20
  • Illinois State, swept by UMary in the Marauders home opening weekend - is #15
  • #3 University of Central Oklahoma split two games with the Marauders
  • Jamestown has split its two games with UMary
  • #2 Minot State is 2-0 against UMary

The ACHA uses two computer rankings generated by USHSHO.com, Ranking A (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 7) and Ranking B (Wins with Maximum Goal Differential of 1), to come up with an average of the two rankings. The ACHA will then use the list generated from the average for its weekly ranking. Ties will be broken using the higher ranked team from Ranking B until the Top 25 teams are listed. All games that go to overtime will be scored as ties in the computer ranking.

The ninth ranking of the regular season will be released on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
