INDIANAPOLIS – Facing some of the best competition in the nation, the 5^th ranked University of Mary wrestling team claimed 5^th overall in the team standings as five Marauders placed at the 44^th Midwest Classic.
 
Hosted by the University of Indianapolis, the 44^th Midwest Classic featured 51 teams. The Marauders improved on last year's finish when the Marauders finished 7^th in the team standings with two wrestlers placing.
 
Matthew Kaylor was the top finisher for the Marauders as the Bismarck, ND, native claimed 4^th place at 197. Luke Tweeton earned 5^th at 285, Wyatt Lidberg finished 5^th at 184, Max Bruss was 6^th at 174 and Reece Barnhardt grabbed 7^th at 133.
 
Ranked 5^th in the nation, Kaylor (197) jumped out to a great start after he won a tight 2-0 decision over #9 Anthony Yacovetti (Lander). He then defeated Ben Tonnessen (Adams State) by an 8-3 decision to advance to challenge for bronze. Kaylor took fourth place after he was defeated in his third-place matchup by #8 Dakoda Rodgers (Pitt-Johnstown) in a 6-3 decision.
 
#10 Luke Tweeton (285) lost his semi-final matchup to #7 Isaiah Vance (Pitt-Johnstown) by a 5-0 decision. Tweeton then fell to #2 Juan Edmond-Holmes (Lander) by a 5-1 decision. The Frazee, MN, native came back to defeat #12 Braden Morgan (Central Oklahoma) 4-2 in a tiebreaker to claim fifth place.
 
#10 Wyatt Lidberg (184) opened day two by defeating #12 Aidan Petersen (Indianapolis) in a 13-4 major decision. Lidberg grabbed an 8-6 decision victory over Colter Bye (Upper Iowa). The junior lost to #5 Reece Worachek (UW-Parkside) by a 4-2 decision. Lidberg earned a fifth-place finish after winning his final match by medical forfeit.
 
#5 Reece Barnhardt (133) started the day off by defeating Ryan Ripplinger (McKendree) by a 10-2 major decision. Barnhardt would fall to Matthew Chi (UW-Parkside) by a 15-4 major decision. The Bismarck, ND, native finished the day winning a rematch against Evan Binder (Maryville) in a 6-4 decision to take seventh place.
 
After tying the school record for most NCAA wins on day one of the Midwest Classic, #2 Max Bruss (174) struggled on day two of the tournament. He lost his three matchups of the day and took sixth place.
 
Jaden Verhagen (125) just missed out on placing after he fell to #6 Jose Diaz by an 18-12 decision in his only match of the day.
 
The Marauders return to action at the NWCA Division II National Duals on January 5-6 in Cedar Falls, IA.
