JAMESTOWN, ND – The #9 University of Mary wrestling team had a huge opening meet as the Marauders captured four titles and ten top-three finishes at the Jimmie Open.
 
Max Bruss placed first at 174, Wyatt Lidberg captured the 184 crown, Matthew Kaylor beat all comers at 197 and Luke Tweeton topped the field at 285.
 
Bruss, ranked 2^nd in the nation, won all four of his matches, including wins by fall and by shutout before taking the title in an 11-2 major decision over Mason Fey of Northern State.
 
Lidberg won his first two matches by technical falls before claiming a major decision in the semifinals. Lidberg edged #12 Treyton Cacek of Northern State 5-4 for the title.
 
Kaylor bowled over the competition at 197. The All-American opened with a pin 35 seconds into the match before a win by technical fall in the quarterfinals. He finished the day with a pair of major decisions by a combined scored of 23-1.
 
At 285, Tweeton won all four matches. After opening with a 1-0 decision over Quade Peterson of MSU Moorhead, the sophomore followed with a 4-1 sudden victory. He closed the day with a 3-2 win over teammate Jose Reyes before taking the title with a 4-2 win over Ayden Viox of Northern State.
 
Claiming top three finishes for UMary at the Jimmie Open:

• Jaden Verhagen totaled three pins and went 3-1 at 125 to place 3^rd
• Austin Berry placed second at 125, winning twice on the mat (one win by major decision)  
• Gabe Mortensen was 3^rd at 141, finishing 4-1 with a win by fall and two by technical falls
• Sam Bruss placed second at 165, opening with three straight wins (two by fall)
• Dante Roggio earned third at 174, finishing 3-1 on the mat with one win by technical fall
• Jose Reyes placed 3^rd at 285. He was 3-1 with his only loss to teammate Tweeton. Reyes had wins by both pin and technical fall.
