MANKATO, MN - Northern Sun competition kicked off Thursday night for the #11 ranked University of Mary Wrestling team (8-1, 1-0 NSIC) against a formidable NSIC program, Minnesota State University (3-1, 0-1 NSIC). After the Mavericks won the first match of the evening, the Marauders quickly took command of the dual, winning five of the next six matches, and another in the second to last match to defeat the Mavericks 23-15. 

A year after gaining their first dual victory over the Mavericks, UMary defeated MSU for the second straight time, and for the first time in Mankato. 

The night began at 165 pounds with Riley Noble dropping a 6-2 decision to Kole Marko. #3 Max Bruss answered right back earning a tough 8-5 win over Mike Smith at 174. 

Wyatt Lidberg dominated his 184 opponent Shane Gibson earning a technical fall, outscoring Gibson 17-0. 

#12 Matthew Kaylor picked up a 2-0 victory over Thomas Johnson in the 197 matchup, riding Johnson throughout the entire third period. MSU answered back with their own 2-0 decision, as Luke Tweeton fell to the defending 285-pound national champion, Darrell Mason. 

The Mavericks forfeited the 125 match against Jaden Verhagen. This awarded six team points to the Marauders, at this point making the team score 17-6 in favor of UMary. 

#4 Reece Barnhardt handled Isaiah Mlsna in a 6-0 decision victory, a match that buffered on multiple occasions due to blood stoppages. In the next match, #12 Brock Luthens caught Laken Boese late in the third period with an unorthodox takedown and back points to win 6-2. 

Lincoln Turman held on to defeat Caleb Meunier 6-4, sealing the dual victory for the Marauders. 

In the final official match of the evening, Drake Hayward caught #9 Braydon Huber in a half-nelson for a pinfall 1:09 into the third period. While it gave Minnesota State their fourth victory on the night, UMary would ultimately take their eighth dual victory of the season by a team score of 23-15. 

Sam Bruss defeated Nicolas Leo 5-2 in the first bonus match of the night. Jose Reyes followed up with a 14-3 major decision over Max Villnow in the second bonus match.

The Marauders will head east to the Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, MN for a dual with the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons (1-3, 0-2 NSIC) Friday night.
