Relay performances headline Marauders efforts on final day of 2022 NSIC championships

ABERDEEN, SD – The University of Mary relay teams provided a strong start and finish to the final day of the 2022 Northern Sun Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
In the first race of the day, the Marauders 4x100 meter relay team just missed earning all-conference honors by .65 seconds. The quartet of Ethan Decker, Akil Howell, Jorgen Paulson and Drew Olson placed 3rd with a time of 41.99 seconds.
 
In the 4x400 meter relay that closed out the weekend, UMary claimed 4th place as Paulson, Kyle Cacho, Howell and Isaac Huntington collaborated to finish the race in 3:20.94, just .35 seconds out of 3rd and .72 out of 2nd.
 
Dillan Kovash led a pair of Marauders who placed for the Marauders in the javelin. Kovash, who had the Marauders top individual finish of the day, placed 4th with a top mark of 56.21 meters in his 6th and final effort of the day. Aaron Davis also saved his best for last, claiming 8th after his last toss traveled 45.49 meters.
 
Howell claimed fifth place in the 400 meter dash, cruising around the track in 49.62 seconds. Not far behind was teammate Isaac Huntington, who finished 7th place with a clocking of 50.07 seconds.
 
Astley Davis, who won the long jump championship on Friday, came back to place 6th in the triple jump. His best effort of the day covered 14.31 meters.
 
Isaac Watson earned 6th place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.63 meters.
 
After placing 5th in the 10000 meter run on Friday, Jesse Kaas returned to the track on Saturday to compete the 5000 meter run in 15:11.75 and earning an 8th place finish.
 
Guillermo Fregoso claimed the last team point in the 1500 meter run. The sophomore finished 8th in a time of 3:59.69.
 
The Marauders generated 50 team points to finish 6th in the team standings. Minnesota State won the NSIC outdoor title with 214 points, followed by Augustana (136), MSU Moorhead (132), Northern State (73), Wayne State (54.50), UMary, Minnesota Duluth (49.50), Sioux Falls (40), Concordia-St. Paul (30), Minot State (24), Southwest Minnesota State (9) and Upper Iowa (7).
 
The Marauders wrap up the season at the NCAA championships on May 26-28.
