BURNSVILLE, MN – A record-setting season by
Derek Shoen earned the University of Mary first baseman a spot on the 2022 All-Northern Sun baseball team. A dynamic offensive force for the Marauders, Shoen becomes UMary's first two-time first team All-NSIC selection.
Shoen finished the regular season with 14 home runs and 51 runs batted in, breaking long-standing team single season records in both categories. In 49 games, the junior from Truman, MN, was 55-of-167 with 12 doubles and 48 runs scored and a line of .329/.472/.653 for a 1.125 OPS. In addition to leading the Marauders in home runs and RBIs, he also paced UMary in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS and is tied for the team lead in runs. Shoen also walked 35 times, was hit by 12 pitches and stole three bases.
In NSIC play only, Shoen tied for the conference-high in home runs (11), was fifth in slugging percentage (.678) and OPS (1.147), sixth in RBIs (33), eighth in on base percentage (.469) and tenth in runs scored (33),
Additionally Shoen set Marauders single game records when he hit three home runs and drove in seven runs at Augustana on March 29.
Shoen has also pitched in eight games for UMary with one start and seven relief appearances. He is tied for the team lead in saves with two.

The Marauders open their second straight Northern Sun tournament appearance against Augustana on Wednesday, May 11. Game time is 12 noon at Ronken Park in Sioux Falls, SD. Both Marauders NSIC tournament berths coincide with Shoen earning all-league honors.
