DES MOINES, IA and DICKINSON, ND – A busy week for the University of Mary men's track & field was headlined by strong performances by
Akil Howell at the Grand View Viking Classic while
Dawson Strom and
Isaiah Richards posted wins at the Blue Hawk Games as UMary competed at three events in two states.
"I'm really excited about what we did as a group on the long road trip," said Marauders interim head coach
Cale Korbelik. "Many people stepped up big time and are setting themselves up for a great finish to the season at conference."
DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWK GAMES
Dawson Strom led an impressive pack of Marauders in the 5000 meter dash as UMary claimed the top five finishes. Strom finished in a time of 15:21.93 as the All-NSIC runner claimed first.
Guillermo Fregoso took second in 15:26.93, followed by
Caleb Yokom (15:33.53),
Timothy Moore (15:43.78) and
Isaac Anderson (16:08.72).
Isaiah Richards gave the Marauders their other win on the day when he captured the triple jump with a mark of 13.68 meters.
Aaron Davis was the runner-up in the javelin with a top effort of 45.63 meters.

GRAND VIEW VIKING CLASSIC
Akil Howell topped the Marauders efforts at the Viking Classic. The freshman blazed his way to victory in the 400 meter dash with a clocking of 48.58 seconds.
Close behind in the 400 was
Isaac Huntington. The defending NSIC champion placed third in 49.12 seconds.
The UMary 4x400 team of Howell,
Ethan Decker,
Jorgen Paulson and Huntington combined to finish in 3:22.85 and finish second, just .40 seconds behind William Penn.

DRAKE RELAYS
The Marauders 4x100 meter relay team of
Ethan Decker,
Akil Howell,
Jorgen Paulson and
Drew Olson ran the event in 41.78 seconds and just missed qualifying for the finals, taking 9
th in the preliminaries.

The Marauders are next scheduled to compete at the DSU Last Chance Meet on May 5 and the Occidental Invite on May 7.
