Hull, Marauders punish Peacocks 13-4 to wrap up weekend series

BISMARCK, ND – On of three teammates with a trio of hits, Noah Hull scored a team-high three runs and blasted one of three home runs for the University of Mary as the Marauders overwhelmed visiting Upper Iowa University 13-4. UMary scored runs in six of eight innings, including multiple runs four times.

Hull finished the day 3-for-4 and added a walk to his home run and three runs scored. Hitting sixth in the lineup, the UMary designated hitter spearheaded a massive day by the bottom half of the order. Hull, James Martin, Kendall Keller and Jon Prokop combined to go 7-for-16 against the Peacocks, scoring seven runs and driving in eight while accounting for all three home runs plus a double.

Down 2-0 after the Peacocks scored twice in the top of the second inning, the Marauders pulled even when a Keller single to right scored Hull and Prokop drove in Martin with a base hit to left.

UMary grabbed its first lead of the day in the fourth when Martin blasted a 2-run shot to left, scoring Hull after he walked to lead off the inning.

Three straight singles to start the fifth inning pushed the UMary lead to 5-2 as Derek Shoen plated Kyle Jameson.

The Peacocks closed the gap to 5-4 in the sixth before Prokop immediately answered in the home half of the inning with a 2-run home run to left. After tacking on two more runs in the seventh on a Hull home run to straight away center field, the Marauders scored four more in the eighth. Calvin James produced the big blow with a 2-run double. Shoen followed with a double to score James before crossing the plate himself on a pair of wild pitches.

Parker Wakelyn picked up his second win of the week and third of the year. The lefty pitched 5.0 innings on the day and worked his way out of multiple jams. He allowed two runs – both unearned – and walked four while striking out four. He left the bases full of Peacocks in the first and fifth innings and stranded two in the second.

Liam Sommer closed out the game for UMary, pitching the final four innings of the game to earn his first save. Sommer struck out three, walked one, and didn't allow a hit or a run.
