Jameson shines in Marauders 12-11 extra inning loss to Thunderwolves

PUEBLO, CO – Kyle Jameson homered and scored four runs for the second straight game to pace the University of Mary baseball team in a 12-11 extra-inning loss at Colorado State University Pueblo.

Jameson finished the day with three hits in four at bats. The UMary center fielder drove in three runs, scored four, added a walk and stole a base. In his last two games, Jameson is 7-for-10 with two doubles and two home runs with eight runs scored. Playing today in his home town of Pueblo, CO, Jameson has scored four runs in a game three times this season.

Trailing 8-2 after four innings, the Marauders scored seven straight runs to claim a 9-8 lead. A Calvin James groundout scored Jameson with an unearned run in the fifth inning to start the rally. UMary then exploded for six runs in the sixth, the key blow a Jameson 3-run blast over the left field wall.

The Marauders first lead of the night was short-lived as the Thunderwolves scored three times in the bottom of the 6th to regain their advantage 11-9.

UMary continued to score, posting two more runs in the 7th inning. James Martin homered to left center on a full count pitch to open the inning. Making use of another misplay by CSUP, Jameson singled, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored the tying run on a Michael Polson sacrifice fly to left field.

Paxton Miller entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning and delivered three dominant innings for UMary. The righthander struck out the first five hitters he faced. In the ninth inning, a throwing error on a strikeout allowed Jacob Federico to become the first baserunner against Miller. After a sacrifice bunt moved Federico to second, Miller recorded his seventh strikeout. Following a balk to move the baserunner to third, Miler struck out an eighth hitter to end the Thunderwolves threat and force extra innings.

Unable to score in the top of the tenth, a pair of errors cost the Marauders dearly in the bottom of the inning. The CSUP leadoff hitter reached on an error and a pinch-runner moved to second on a wild pitch. A walk then brough on Andrew Brooks in place of Miller. A second error by UMary loaded the bases. Brooks registered a strikeout before a Reggie Williams single through the right side of the infield scored an unearned run to give the Thunderwolves the win.

Martin scored twice and drove in two runs for the Marauders. Kendall Keller had two hits and scored once. Derek Shoen doubled and drove in two runs. Polson scored twice and drove in a run.

Miller took a heartbreaking loss. He finished with eight strikeouts in three hitless innings. Miller walked one and the only run he allowed was unearned.

Jayden Smith also threw 1.1 scoreless innings.

As a staff five Marauders pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts in 9.1 innings

The Marauders finish their five-game trip to Colorado 3-2 and are now 5-4 on the season. The Thunderwolves are 7-7.

UMary next plays a doubleheader at MSU Billings on March 9.
