BILLINGS, MT – Behind her best finish of the fall season,
Kaleigh Carmichael led the University of Mary efforts at the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational. The junior closed strong to finish third overall.
UMary also finished third in the 7-team meet with a two-day total of 656 at the Lake Hills Golf Course in Billings, MT. The Marauders opened with a first round score of 325 before shooting a 331 on day two. South Dakota School of Mines placed first at 634. Host MSU Billings just edged past the Marauders by five strokes with a score of 651. Minot State was a little behind in fourth at 668.
"This was another great tournament by the team to keep our momentum up," said UMary women's coach
Marion Hernandez. "Kaleigh had a great round to move up five spots and finish third in the tournament. I'm looking forward to our next tournament in Sioux Falls."
Carmichael shot an 80 in the opening round before firing a 77 in round two. The Williston, ND, native improved five slots in the standings with her impressive closing effort. She finished 13 strokes over par for the two rounds and was just three shots behind meet champion Rianna Garland of South Dakota Mines. Garland shot a 154 for the win.
Carrie Carmichael tied for 12
th overall out of 40 competitors. The sister of
Kaleigh Carmichael finished with a score of 165 after carding an 81 on the first day before closing with an 84.
Close behind was
Grace Stroh. The freshman shot a 2-day score of 166 on matching rounds of 83 to place 16
th. Anna Gravelin rounded out the team as she posted a final score of 168. She shot 81 on day one and 87 on the second.
Abby Thelen placed 29
th after finishing +37 (88-93+181).
Alli Hulst participated as an individual and finished 32
nd (96-92=188).
With two meets remaining on the fall schedule, UMary next competes at the University of Sioux Falls Invitational on Oct. 10-11 in Larchwood, IA, at The Falls Golf Course.
