CROOKSTON, MN –
Kendra Park found the net early and
Madisyn Waltman and the University of Mary defense ensured it was the only goal needed in a 1-0 Marauders road win over the University of Minnesota Crookston.
The victory was the 10
th of the season for the Marauders, only the third team in the Northern Sun to reach double figures in overall wins this season. UMary is 10-4-3 overall and 7-4-3 in the NSIC. The Marauders sit sixth in the standings overall with 24 points, just one point behind fifth place Concordia-St. Paul.
With one game remaining in the regular season, the Marauders host Minot State University on Thursday, October 27, in a huge game between the pair of Highway 83 rivals. Locked out of a possibility to host a Northern Sun tournament game, UMary will snare a slot in the conference tournament with a win or tie over the Beavers. Minot State has earned home field for the first round and can finish anywhere from second to fourth.
Game time between the Marauders and the Beavers is 5 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
The Marauders struck quickly and once again it was Park who found the mark. Taking a through ball down the right sideline from
Tara Young,
MaLiah Burke sent a cross to the upper right of the 18 yard box with Park beating the Golden Eagles defender to the ball. Finding open space with a defender on her back, the Marauders leading goal scorer ripped a shot into the upper left side of the net just 3:37 into the match.
The goal was the seventh of the season for Park and the sophomore's 3
rd game-winner.
Waltman and the Marauders defense held the Golden Eagles attack at bay, hosting Minnesota Crookston to nine shots total. Waltman made saves on both UMC's shots on frame to earn her 8
th clean sheet of the season and 33
rd of her career, a UMary record. Overall it was the Marauders tenth shutout of the season.
UMary fired 15 shots with seven on frame.
