PADDLE TROPHY
The first-ever gridiron match-up between the University of Mary and Minnesota State University Moorhead took on a little extra edge in 2006 as both schools battled for The Paddle Trophy in this "River Rivalry" game. UMary is located on the Missouri River and MSU Moorhead is on the Red River. Both are Northern Sun North Division rivals... The Paddle Trophy was developed by the student governments of the two colleges. The team that wins each year is responsible for the safekeeping and delivery of the Paddle Trophy and its case to each game between the Marauders and Dragons. The home team's student body representative will award the Paddle Trophy, which has each school's logo on opposite sides of the blade, with the score of each game being added to the winning team's side after the game... UMary won the first seven paddle games, grabbing initial possession with a 21-20 win in Bismarck in 2006. Marauders linebacker Brian Finnegan preserved the initial UMary win when he deflected a Dragons pass on a two-point conversion attempt with 1:08 remaining in the game. MSUM captured the paddle in 2013 for the first time with a 48-41 win.

TWO TRAVELING TROPHIES
The Marauders play two games annually for travelling trophies. Combined the Marauders are 11-12 in trophy games. The Marauders are 8-7 in the "Battle for the Paddle" with MSU Moorhead and 3-5 in the "Battle for the Big Lake" against Minot State.

Jamal Lomax scored in eight straight games stretching from the end of the 2009 season into 2010. However the Marauders all-time leading rusher missed four games during that run so his run was not consecutive UMary games.

NSIC NAMES FORKNELL, KOPF PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jesse Forknell and Ian Kopf earned Northern Sun Player of the Week honors for their tremendous impact in the University of Mary's 27-26 overtime victory over Northern State University. Forknell was selected on offense with Kopf claiming special teams recognition... Making his first collegiate start, Forknell rallied the Marauders to the victory as UMary twice trailed by 14 points in the contest. The sophomore from Fargo, ND, completed 18-of-30 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions... All three touchdown passes came in the second half, including a 19 yard scoring strike to Collin Gapen to tie the game at 20-20 with 3:42 to play in the fourth quarter. With the Marauders down 26-20 in overtime, Forknell hit Gapen in the back right corner of the end zone to tie the game. Kevin Powell then kicked the extra point to give the Marauders their first win of the season after four losses by one possession each... Kopf made the Marauders win possible by blocking two Northern State extra point attempts. The first block by the redshirt freshman from Walla, Walla, WA, came in the second quarter to limit the Wolves lead to 20-6... The second block by Kopf was even more impactful and came after the Wolves scored on the opening possession of overtime to take a 26-20 lead. The block allowed the Marauders to win the game on the Gapen touchdown and Powell extra point off the snap by Josh Zakavec and the hold by Danny Kittner... This is the first time the Marauders have had multiple NSIC players of the week for the same game since Paul Guptill captured defensive honors and Brody Riggs was cited for his special teams work in the 2019 season finale against Minnesota Crookston... It was also the second straight season a Marauders quarterback won NSIC offensive honors for their play against the Wolves (Logan Nelson 2021).
