Unbeaten streak snapped at 10 in Marauders 1-0 road loss to Wolves

ABERDEEN, ND – The University of Mary soccer team's record unbeaten string came to end at ten. In a meeting between a pair of regionally ranked squads, the Marauders were edged 1-0 by homestanding Northern State University.
 
UMary slips to 7-1-3 overall and is 4-1-3 in Northern Sun action. The Marauders are tied for fifth in the NSIC standings with 15 points, just two points out of second and five out of first. The Marauders upcoming schedule includes all five of the other teams at the top of the standings. Northern State improved to 5-3-3/3-2-3.
 
The Wolves started fast, generating a pair of shots and a pair of corner kicks in the first six minutes of play.

The Marauders just missed scoring in the 9th minute on a breakaway by Kendra Park, but her shot outside the goal box was deflected by Wolves Alexus Townsend off the right post to earn UMary a corner kick.
 
Northern State broke through with a goal in the 56th minute on a counter by Hannah Smith.
 
UMary pressed the issue late, generating a pair of corner kicks and two shots that didn't reach the net.
 
The Marauders had one final scoring attempt in the last minute. Awarded an indirect free kick off a dropped ball ten yards in front of the Wolves net with all Northern State players lined up in the net on the goal line, Mo Malone's blast following a touch by Ava Vizenor was blocked before the ball was cleared to midfield and time ran out on UMary's unbeaten streak.
 
Madisyn Waltman finished with seven saves for the Marauders, including four in the second half. Townsend had three for the Wolves.
 
NSU held an 11-9 edge in shots and an 8-3 advantage in shots on frame. Both teams had five corner kicks.
 
After playing their last four games on the road, the Marauders return to host Wayne State College on Friday, October 7. Start time is 4 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
