UMary powers way to split at Minnesota Crookston

CROOKSTON, MN – The University of Mary softball team split their doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Crookston after the Marauders hit three home runs in game one.

UMC earned an early lead after scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. Madelynn Trout tied the game up after she hit a solo home run in the second inning. In the top of the fourth inning Mikaela Pelesauma hit a solo home run, giving UMary a 2-1 lead. Eryn De Jonge kept the Marauders going as she doubled which brought home Rachael Laetsch and Trout.

De Jonge kept her great work going in the sixth inning as she singled to right field, scoring Kasidy Chileen. Mariah Sanchez hit a solo home run to right-center in the seventh inning which gave the Marauders a 6-1.

PIVOT POINT

UMC scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth making the score 6-3. The Golden Eagles had the bases loaded but Nicole Eckhardt got out of the jam and earned UMary a win.

  • Mariah Sanchez went 2-for-4 with one home run, one RBI and one run scored
  • Mikaela Pelesauma went 1-for-4 with one home run, one RBI and one run scored

  • Nicole Eckhardt earned her second win of the season after she pitched 4 innings of relief and allowed only two earned run and struck out five hitters

Eryn De Jonge had a team-high three RBIs as she went 2-for-3.

The Golden Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Devyn Ritz made the game even after she doubled to left-center which scored Madelynn Trout.

UMC scored three more runs in the second inning and four more runs in the third giving the Golden Eagles an 8-1 lead. Kaitlyn Alvarado reached on an error which brought home Levi Luna.

UMC finished the game off as the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth winning 11-2.

Alissa Alvarado pitched three and two-thirds innings and allowed only one earned run while striking out two batters.

The Marauders (8-31, 7-19 Northern Sun) travel to Bemidji, MN, to compete in their final games of the season against Bemidji State University at 12 pm in a doubleheader.
