UMary's Kaitlyn Alvarado leads Marauders to split at Bemidji State on final day of the season

BEMIDJI, MN – In her last appearance, senior Kaitlyn Alvarado pitched a complete game victory, collected three hits and drove in two runs to lead the University of Mary softball team to a split at Bemidji State University on the final day of the 2021 season.

BSU had an early 3-0 lead after scoring one run in the first inning and two runs in the third inning.

Kaitlyn Alvarado got UMary on the board in the fourth inning with a single through the left side to score Mikaela Pelesauma. Rachael Laestch tied the game up at 3-3 when she singled to right field, bringing home Madelynn Trout and Eryn De Jonge.

PIVOT POINT

The Beavers scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Marauders failed to score in the sixth and seventh innings, giving BSU a 4-3 win.

Rachael Laetsch went 2-for-3 with a team-high two RBIs.

The Marauders fell behind the Beavers 1-0 after BSU scored in the second inning.

UMary rallied for three runs in the top of the third. Morgan Diedrich doubled to right-center, scoring Kaylee Kannegiesser. Kaitlyn Alvarado then singled through the right side which scored Brooke De Jonge. Madelynn Trout brought in the third run of the inning after she hit a single to center, bringing home Diedrich.

BSU made the game 3-2 after the Beavers scored one run in the third inning.

PIVOT POINT

Eryn De Jonge extended the Marauders lead to 5-2 after she hit a single to left field which scored Trout and Alvarado. BSU added another run in the sixth but that would be it as UMary won 5-3.

STAT OF THE GAME

Kaitlyn Alvarado did a great job in both hitting and pitching. The senior pitched all seven inning and allowed three earned runs as she struck out three hitters and got her second Alvarado also went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

NEXT TIME OUT

The Marauders finished the year going 9-32 overall and 8-20 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
